Product Overview

Post and Column Bases secure the bottom of posts or columns to concrete and are perfect for decks or patio covers. Models are available for attaching to existing hardened concrete, wet concrete, as well as wood. The EPB series provides a connection between a post (or column) for decks, patio covers and other top-supported structures.

  • Added standoff adjustability to suit a variety of applications
  • Install in wet concrete
  • Provides the code-required 1 in. standoff when properly installed, allows up to 2-1/2 in. of standoff above concrete (if desired)
  • Not recommended for non top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports)
  • Made from 12-Gauge steel base
  • Simpson Strong-Tie gray paint
  • Install with 16d common nails

No, a true 6x6 post will need to be trimmed down. Simpson Strong tie does offer custom work, from what I read, however.

The EPB66 is sized for a solid sawn 6x6 (actual 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"). The following bases are available for rough lumber 6x6 posts (true 6" x 6"):

Is this comparable to galvanized steel? Will it ever rust or corrode? There is no information on this! The specifications only says it 'Steel'.

The finish on the EPB66 is Simpson Strong-Tie® gray paint. Painted finishes are considered to provide a LOW level of corrosion protection. This base is also offered with the HDG finish (hot dip galvanized) which provides a MEDIUM level of corrosion protection; specify EPB66HDG. Can we use a through bolt along with nails to secure the 6x6 post on this base? If yes what size (diameter) will it take?

Answer: 
The EPB66 is only intended to be installed with nails (16d common - 0.162" diameter x 3 1/2" long). The larger hole is a pilot hole used in the manufacturing process. Thank you!
