Questions & Answers

what is the spacing distance between FAP fundation anchors for securing the Fundation to main house frame?

the house was built in 1905 and there are no bolts on fundation securing the House.
Asked by: Jesse
Jesse - Depending on where you are located, the code calls out 1/2" or 5/8" diameter anchor bolts to secure the house to the foundation. At the following link you'll see the FAP foundation anchor would be spaced at 5 1/2' to replace the 1/2" anchor bolt or 4' to replace the 5/8" anchor bolt: http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors/FAP-FJA-FSA.asp#tables. You can confirm your code requirement with your local building department (or, 4' would be conservative).

Why has the FAP disappeard from all Simpson Strong Tie publications and their website? Or am I just missing it? The link provided in another answer just relates to FJA/FSA straps, which are an entirely different use-case. Thanks.
Asked by: Josh68
The FAP is in the process of being discontinued/phased out and will be substituted with the FRFP shown in our C-C-2017 catalog. Thank you!

what does the "D299" designation stamped on the FAP connector mean?

I need to be sure this product meets the corrosion standards for exterior application.
Asked by: Doug53
The D299 designation is for manufacturing purposes (die number). The FAP has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection and is not recommend for exterior applications. It is also available by special order with the hot-dip galvanized (HDG) finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection and be used in some exterior applications. Please visit our website for complete corrosion information and to determine the recommended finish based on your condition. Thank you!
