Customer Questions & Answers

Is this strap galvanized?

Is this strap galvanized?
Asked by: SN
The MST72 has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection. It is also available with the hot dip galvanized (HDG) finish by special order (HDG provides a medium level of corrosion protection). Please see the Corrosion section on our website for finish recommendations based on the application. Thank you!

Is this strap suitable for a 2x9 pressure treated pine?

When it says "Designed for connections between 3-1/2 in. or larger wood members. Splitting may be a problem with installations on lumber smaller than 3-1/2 in..", is that to say that it should not be used on say, a 2 x 9 ? Obviously I wouldn't try attaching to the 2" edge, but is it okay for the 9" wide side, or would the 16d nails risk cracking wood that's only 2" thick? I know I must stagger the nails if grain is horizontal, or relatively straight if grain is diagonal.

Yes, as you said, going into the widest size, but not the narrowest.
