Models are available for attaching to existing hardened concrete, wet concrete, as well as wood. The AB series also offers adjustability around the anchor bolt to achieve optimum post placement. And many models provide a 1 in. standoff from the concrete to help avoid post-end rot from moisture.

  • Features 1 in. standoff to help prevent rot at post end
  • Slotted for adjustability
  • Designed for versatility, cost-effectiveness and maximum uplift performance
  • Nominal Post Size: 6 in. x 6 in.
  • Made from 14-Gauge steel
  • Z-MAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 16d common nails or #10 x 1-1/2 Strong-Drive SD screws

Is this post base a true 6 inches across?

Asked by: Anonymous
No, it is not a true 6" across. The 6" size is an industry standard term, just as a two-by-four wood plank is not, necessarily, 2" x 4"; typically, it is 1-1/2" x 3-1/2", but, it's easier to say "two-by-four". In this case, the true measure of the base is 5-1/2" wide on all four sides, which fits a Home Depot 6"x6"x8' pressure treated timber, which I used as a column post for my front porch (again, the 6" in both dimensions is actually 5-1/2"). If you're still wary about it, bring a measuring tape with you to the store, take the post base to whichever piece of lumber you intend on using, and see if it'll fit (if you decide against using the base, be a good shopper and put it back where you found it!).

I'm using pressure treated 6x6 and they are about 1/8" too wide, can I bend the sides a bit to make the posts fit?

Asked by: rick
Chisel out the 1/8" difference and make them flush

Check with a tape before leaving the store, because this one fits the typical 5 1/2" treated pine post. If you have a true 6x6 cedar post, your 20 bucks is wasted because the base wont fit. Sounds like a rookie mistake but, yeah, I did it. Know your "actual" post size and measure at the store, because the box does not indicate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs some adjustment The boot is a great design! I use these on every deck job I build but the only problem I have is that the lumber is usually still wet at time of construction so the boot is to small and has to be bent to fit the post. If it was a 1/8 of an inch bigger it would be perfect!
