Product Overview

Post and Column Bases secure the bottom of posts or columns to concrete and are perfect for decks or patio covers. Models are available for attaching to existing hardened concrete, wet concrete, as well as wood. The BC series offers dual purpose post cap/base for light cap or base applications.

  • Provides a positive connection for a post to a wood deck
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening
  • Reduces the chance of the post splitting and eliminates nailing into end grain
  • Not recommended for non top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports)
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 16d common nails

What kind of nails should I use? It says 16d common but should they be hot dipped galvanized? Aren't 16d common nails too long if I have to nail from both sides?
Asked by: edh
Yes, hot dip galvanized fasteners should be used with Z-MAX connectors. The nails will pass each other; 16d common nails (0.162" diameter x 3 1/2" long) are the required fasteners. Thank you!

Will it fit a 6 " pressure treated lumber post properly?

Asked by: Sam
The BC6Z is sized for a nominal 6x post (5 1/2" actual, as per the National Design Specification). Thank you!
