Customer Reviews

MP 2 in. x 4 in. 20-Gauge Mending Plate is rated 2.4 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mending Plates gone wrong Mending plates are normally installed in a factory pressed into the two pieces of wood to be joined. When doing this at home you have to hammer rather hard and should only hammer on a hard surface to allow the mending plate to properly enter the wood surface. If joining into an existing framing stud the mending plate doesn't seem to hammer in well. I do not recommend this product until a way to install this product for homeowners is developed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install Don't beat these type of connectors on with a hammer. I use a C-clamp to press them in. I put a piece of 2" wide x 3/16" thick steel flatbar between the connector plate and the C-clamp screw end. I've also used a mini vise to press them in.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very difficult to use properly without a press Another reviewer also noted that these plates are very difficult to attach to wood using a hammer and unless very solidly backed up will bounce out. The ones I have seen correctly installed seem to have been factory installed using a press. If someone has a way to do this better I would like to know it.
