Answer:
I would. That will give you total coverage for the back side of the stair stringers. If your existing band board is a 2x6 and is attached well to the structure(screwed or lagged) then I would use a 3/8"x3" Lag Screws to attach the new 2x10 to it. Then attach the stair stringers to the 2x10 with an appropriate hanger and #10x1-1/2" Simpson Teco nails

Answer:
Yes, when a fastener is installed on the narrow face of the stringer (on the underside), only one fastener is required there. Please visit our website for complete information on installations (supported, standard or cantilevered), the required fasteners for each condition and the allowable loads. Thank you!

I'm using four 2x6x12 with 4x8 subfloor on top. Total rise is only 20". Mostly concerned with hole spacing with 5.5" width since weight will be 350lbs max at any given time.

Answer:
Based on size, a 2x6 would be an option with the LSCZ, but it would be up to the Designer to confirm if it is adequate based on framing layout (must maintain a minimum 4 1/8" from the top of the LSCZ to the bottom of the header), demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!
