I'd use 2 ea. Now, as for attaching the hanger itself, that depends on the structure and material you are affixing to ... I'd limit the length of fastener to the depth of what you're hanging it on, avoiding over penetration ... have fun Read Less

Short answer is yes ... but careful placement when attaching hanger needs some thought ... angle of rafter or joist, it's height after the ridge cuts, fastener interference, etc. I'd spend the extra few pennies for the 2X8 hanger ... and you'll still need to take into account it's height for the sheathing ... Do your research and planning before you start cutting wood and you'll save not only save time Read More

Answer:
The guideline is the hanger height should be at least 60% of the joist height for stability. The LUC26Z with a height of 4 3/4" meets this guideline with a 2x8 member so provided the capacity is adequate for your demand load, this hanger can be used. Thank you!

Can this be used to hang joists in a hollow block wall or are there better choices?

This question is from Z-MAX 2 in. x 6 in. 18-Gauge Galvanized Concealed Face Mount Joist Hanger

Old house with non-grouted, hollow block walls needs new ceiling joists for hanging drywall to replace old, cracked and missing plaster on lath ceilings. Existing joists are deteriorated and there are separate wood "rafters" supporting the "flat" roof decking that were scabbed-on to the larger ceiling joists to achieve the low slope of roof. I'll be installing new, separate ceiling joists to get a strong, flat plane on which to attach drywall or "blue board" panels if I go with a veneer plaster. Since there are existing boards nailed to the old joists, there are no flat areas to which I can "sister" the new joists to the old ones so I will install new joists between old ones using Simpson Strong Ties attached to the hollow block walls with Powers Drop-In Hollow Wall Anchors which are designed for such applications.

Answer:
We do not have any hangers designed/rated for attachment to hollow block and would have to suggest a local engineer be contacted for assistance on this application. Thank you!

Typically wider hangers can be used with narrower members with shimming, though we are unfamiliar with 5/4 lumber being used as joists (typically used for deck planking) and would recommend the manufacturer be contacted to confirm this application is acceptable. Note: Built-up lumber must be fastened together to act as one unit to resist the applied load (excluding the connector fasteners). This must be Read More

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This joist hanger is a much better choice over the conventional flavor when it is to be exposed in an 'open cover' outside deck or patio, especially when painted prior to installation ... much more pleasing to the eye ... no flange ears October 26, 2016
