Will ABU66Z adjustable post base ,fit a true 6x6 inch cedar post? How is it adjustable?

Asked by: Anonymous
I have two of those bases and I went out and measured them again just to make sure of my answer. Although the flanges are bendable at the top and might be pushed apart enough to handle a true 6x6, they are not moveable at the base. They are a fixed 5 1/2 inches at the base, the dimension of a normal 6x6. You could mill the bottom of your post down with either a router or circular saw. The post base needs to be covered with facia boards anyway to finish them so the cutback would not be seen. Another solution, which I think would look the best, would be to notch the posts just enough to allow the flanges to fit in the grooves you cut. Good luck.

Can I use this base as a support for a wood roof?

I will be using a 6x6 treated lumber as columns for an outdoor teraace wood roof, can I use this base to support the lumber and attached on a concrete floor. Thanks.
Asked by: Austin
It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the appropriate connector based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty Brackets! I bought these brackets to anchor the posts for the roof over my back porch. The previous roof had been taken down by high winds and I wanted to upgrade to a more secure fastening system. These brackets really fit the bill. They are made out of very heavy gauge steel and bolt to the concrete base as well as to the post itself. While they are a little pricey, I think they are a good value and should last a lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty I have not installed yet, but these bases are very sturdy/heavy gaugle metal. They should be a snap to install on my threaded J-bolts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but worth it for the right job Simpson brackets are good and can be adapted to the job. This particular bracket is bullet proof and very sturdy for heavy loads. Downside they are very expensive and should only be used for heavy jobs if required. Simpson also makes a lighter 6x6 bracket that is much cheaper and available in store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty This is what you want for a real stability and strength. Too bad they're not in the store, they only carry a lighter duty version.
