Product Overview

Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane ties are designed to resist high winds and seismic forces by positively connecting trusses/rafters to the top of wall of the structure. These ties connect both solid-sawn and engineered lumber across a wide range of applications. Some hurricane tie models are available with additional corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications.

  • Great for connecting 2x deck joists on top of a perpendicular beam
  • Install in pairs on either side of the rafter/truss/joist to provide resistance to uplift and lateral forces
  • Use also for a variety of connections where one member crosses another
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 8d common nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

We can provide allowable loads, dimensions, required fastener and other product related information for our connectors, but it is up to the Designer to specify the appropriate connector for the application based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

what works best with the galvanized 18 gauge hurricane ties, galvanized nails or the hex screws?

Asked by: JayTee
The H2.5AZ is rated with either 8d common nails or the SD9112 structural connector screw. Typically the SD9112 will provide a higher capacity (all load directions except the F2 direction when attached to Spruce-Pine-Fir or Hem Fir). Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hurricane Strap Simply awesome, easy to install and strong. I put these up on a patio that I was building during a windy day. You cannot go wrong with these straps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Left and right Their are left and right so look though them to make sure you get the one you need. I got both to put them side by side. I'm going to use sawmill rough lumber which is two inches wide, which the other hangers are designed for 1 1/2 inch store lumber.
