Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Matt Good, but Interference with Joist Hangers
Used these to support 42" railing posts on 2x10 framing. You have to modify the install slightly for 36" vs 42" railing (see L-C-GRDRLPST4215).
The problem we had was the instructions mention nothing about interference from the joist hangers. The bolt would go through a substantial portion of the hanger! So we nailed on a 1x board between the joist and the tension tie to space it out far enough. Is it as strong? I hope so!

Converted a spindle-only deck railing to 4x4 post-and-spindle design. Once I figured out how to drill the rim joist holes to line up with the Simpson ties, it went quite fast. Using half inch bolts sounded like over-kill, but the railing is very solid, so guess the engineers knew what they were doing. Very satisfied with the conversion. This design gives me a 3.5 inch horizontal space under the railing to blow leaves through.

Excellent easy to install and the hold the post guards firm. Just as the name implies it's a strong tie.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jpogr The wood will break before these give
You need these to harden the connection between the pillars and the joists if you want your deck to be to code. The only deflection you'll get from the pillar is from the bending of the wood with these properly installed. You could have a party of "large" people leaning against all of your rails simultaneously and you would not need to be concerned about their safety. I recommend getting a 3/8" socket adapter for your drill to make installing the 8 screws quick and easy.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by steviegboy good but expensive
These tension ties are now required in Georgia for deck guard posts so I was glad to find them at Home Depot. However, they are quite expensive. They are very sturdy and it was nice to see that they come with one set of bolts for securing to a joist. Another longer bolt is needed to secure the tie to a post.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FrustratedGolfer Product solves big problems
I was selling my house and the guy that was inspecting it noticed that the deck was pulling away from the house. Not being in the construction business, I figured it was going to be a prolonged and very costly repair. After discussing the problem with the Pro at Home depot he showed me these do-hickeys and in a couple hours the problem was resolved. They didn't pull the deck back to where it originally was, but they anchored it to the house so that no further separation would occur. I used a set on each end of the deck and one in the middle between the deck and the house They seemed a bit pricey for a couple of brackets and some bolts, but for the solution they provided they were a steal.. Thanks Home Depot..

Great reinforcement for rail posts. Should also extend the life of the deck.

I bought these to attach railing posts to my deck and also to attach the joist at each end of the deck through the ledger board to one of the floor joists inside the house (per code). They work very well.
