ZMAX 14-Gauge Galvanized 2x Deck Tension Tie (2-Pack) with SDS Screws

$15.26 /each

Frequently Bought Together

Product Overview

The DTT2Z is a safe, cost-effective way to attach deck-railing posts to the deck framing for stronger, safer railings. Because the post is tied back into the deck joists, rather than to the rim joist alone, the connection is stronger than typical through-bolt installations. The DTT2Z is also ideal for guardrail-post connections and lateral-load connections between the deck and house.

  • Suitable for lighter-duty hold own applications on single or double 2x posts
  • Installs easily with strong-drive SDS screws (included)
  • Made from 14-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with SDS 1/4 in. x 1-1/2 in. screws (included)

It looks like the price is for a box with 2 fixtures. But when I said I wanted 2, the price showed up as $60.

Answer:
When you order one you get two fixtures in the box, along with two large area washers and about a dozen small lag screws that are used to hold the fixtures to the side of a joist. All you need to add is a bolt & nut (or threaded rod with a nut on each end) with the appropriate length for your project.

Answer:
You should ask the engineer for clarification- if the loads require a 5/8" diameter rod, you may need to bump up the tie to an HDU2-SDS2.5 or one of the many options Simpson has...or it could have been a type-o and the 1/2" is fine.

Answer:
There is only one DTT2Z and it is tested/rated with a 1/2" diameter anchor bolt. The hole is 0.612" diamater, so a 5/8" anchor would not fit. Thank you!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The wood will break before these give You need these to harden the connection between the pillars and the joists if you want your deck to be to code. The only deflection you'll get from the pillar is from the bending of the wood with these properly installed. You could have a party of "large" people leaning against all of your rails simultaneously and you would not need to be concerned about their safety. I recommend getting a 3/8" socket adapter for your drill to make installing the 8 screws quick and easy. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good but expensive These tension ties are now required in Georgia for deck guard posts so I was glad to find them at Home Depot. However, they are quite expensive. They are very sturdy and it was nice to see that they come with one set of bolts for securing to a joist. Another longer bolt is needed to secure the tie to a post. September 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product solves big problems I was selling my house and the guy that was inspecting it noticed that the deck was pulling away from the house. Not being in the construction business, I figured it was going to be a prolonged and very costly repair. After discussing the problem with the Pro at Home depot he showed me these do-hickeys and in a couple hours the problem was resolved. They didn't pull the deck back to where it originally was, but they anchored it to the house so that no further separation would occur. I used a set on each end of the deck and one in the middle between the deck and the house They seemed a bit pricey for a couple of brackets and some bolts, but for the solution they provided they were a steal.. Thanks Home Depot.. August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked well Great reinforcement for rail posts. Should also extend the life of the deck. December 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised I bought these to attach railing posts to my deck and also to attach the joist at each end of the deck through the ledger board to one of the floor joists inside the house (per code). They work very well. September 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product These galvanized tension ties offer great piece of mind for railing systems. The kiddos will be safe. October 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must for railing installation!! I have been installing decks for many years, this produce was used for 2 Purposes in my last installation. 1 to add additional strength to an existing ledger and 2 to properly secure a railing on a deck that would be over 30' above grade. This product was easy to install and exceeded my expectations. The railing system has little to no deflection and I am certain of the safety the product provided. October 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! Installed with new deck railings. Amazingly solid. So glad I purchased this. My dad the contractor was equally impressed. October 15, 2013
