Product Overview

Simpson Strong-Tie Pipe-Grip Ties make it easy to attach wood fence rails to metal fence posts. Galvanized fence posts typically last longer than wood posts, extending the life of the fence by helping to avoid a common problem: rotting fence posts. Now you can get the look of a wood fence with the durability of steel posts.

  • Install on vertical pipes, offsetting corners to allow for the correct rail alignment
  • Use 3 to 4 PGTs per pipe; line up to stringline
  • Field bend PGT flanges to fit corner and angled conditions (bend one time only)
  • Made from 12-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • PGT attaches to rails with Simpson Strong-Tie SDS 1/4 in. x 1-1/2 in. HDG wood screws (not included)

Answer:
No, you must provide the lag screws to attach the fence rails. I do not recommend using deck screws, but actual lag screws (galvanized) sized appropriately for the size of rails that you would be attaching.

Answer:
James,
I’m sorry to say the PGT® Pipe Grip Ties® are not available in a 2 7/8” size. The PGT1.5Z-R is for 1 ½” pipe (1 7/8” outside diameter); the PGT2Z-R is for 2” pipe (2 3/8” outside diameter).
Thank you!

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ZMAX 2 in. 12-Gauge Galvanized Pipe Grip Tie This was easy to use. It is strong. It is durable. June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by An option for end posts These Simpson brackets have one advantage over the Oz-Post ones -- you can cut off one whole side tab and use the bracket very close to the end of a board with an end post. See photos. I suppose these also have the advantage of not having two clamp bolts & nuts sticking out, although the Oz-Post ones seem generally more robust. The main disadvantage is that these brackets hold the wood board further out from the post, because of the space needed for the clamping bolt. July 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality product. The perfect way to attach wood to a metal post. This is a great product that allow wood to be attached to a metal support pole. No more rotted or termite issues with wood posts. October 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by these clamps seem to be the perfect answer to my situation! I was building a 6ft fence that spans a 3ft rock wall. It needed a 9ft post at the base of the wall so I could have a 6ft fence at both top and bottom of the wall. The rest of the fence was built with 6x6 posts. I put a 15ft long by 2 3/8 galvanized post 6ft into the ground with 9ft above. The Simpson strong ties worked perfectly to clad the metal post in wood to match the other posts. There was no other way for me to easily find a 15ft 6x6 wooden post so Strong ties were my engineering answer. Thnx Simpsons. KSR September 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by work great These brackets work great for holding up round pens sections to use as a fence . They are easy to work with and very durable they also do not rust which is the best feature. Price is great as well. October 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product. Perfect for the job at hand. Simple and easy to use. Performs as expected. Strong, sturdy, and makes building the fence much quicker and easier. Using a wrench, measuring tape, felt tip pen, level, spring clamp and of course drill and lag screws. I was able to get all my fence rails put up and leveled by myself in one day. I highly recommend this over wooden posts and brackets. Unless of course you absolutely want or need to use wooden post which do look nicer. July 3, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product, but needs some detail attention Ok- most of my reviews have been kinda funny, just cause I was bored. (Plus who needs an in depth review of a 2x4?) I'll be a little more serious with these, because I had a complaint about installing the product - and when you install about 100 of them on a fence build, the little things add up to frustration. The manufacturer recommends their own particular fasteners for lagging these to your fence stringers. No issues there, but the clamp also has a bolt that tightens the tie to the fence post. The head on the lag screw requires one size different than the head on the bolt that tightens the tie to the post. Again - a small detail, but it gets super frustrating trying to remember which ratchet or drill is chucked up with which socket, and the constant shuffle becomes real tedious, real quick. One tool is all that you should have to keep up with to install the product, but it requires 2, as they currently intend. Make your hardware match up ,and this becomes a 5 star product.
