Product Overview

Not only do angles make joints stronger, they also provide more consistent, straight corners. Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of angles in various sizes and thicknesses to handle light-duty jobs or projects where a structural connection is needed. Some can be bent (skewed) to match the project. For outdoor projects or those where moisture is present, use our ZMAX zinc-coated connectors, which provide extra resistance against corrosion (look for a "Z" at the end of the model number).

  • Used to reinforce 90° connections
  • Staggered fastener pattern reduces the chances of wood splitting
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening
  • 7 in. length
  • Made from 16-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 10d common nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

Customer Questions & Answers

Which is the stronger connector - the reinforcing L-angle or the framing angle?

I am trying to join two joists at a 90 degree angle so I guess the question is which is the better to use? I want the strongest connection possible.
Asked by: Adam
It would depend on the application and which L vs. framing angles you are referring to. Comparing the F1 loads of the L70 listed here to the A35, the L70 has a higher capacity for wind/seismic conditions, but he A35 has a higher capacity for floor or roof conditions. Also, depending on the size of the members you are joining, the ML26Z may be an optoin. It installs with SDS screws and has a higher capacity than both the L70 and A35. Ultimately it would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the appropriate connector based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and Strong I build a lot of handicap ramps and decks. I use these as an alternative to concealed joist hangers. They're easier to install and, since they can be done "after the fact", they make the job go quicker.
