  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening
  • Reduces the chance of the post splitting and eliminates nailing into end grain
  • Not recommended for non top-supported installations (Such as fences or unbraced carports)
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 16D common nails or #10 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

I am looking to frame a screen door (not support structure). Can I use this to secure the 2x4 to existing concrete? Is there a base for a 2x4 which elevates the 2x4 like post bases for larger wood sizes? This is the best I see.... Thank you.

Answer:
you could, but its really for a 4x4, so if you have two 2x4's it may work better

Answer:
This guy is a 4x4 base, so it wouldn't work on a 2x4 without some packers. I wouldn't recommend this product to steady a doorframe, personally. Better off with a sinker-type anchor base!

Answer:
We do not have a base designed to mount a railing post onto a deck surface. Please see the T-GRDRLPST10 Technical Bulletin on our website for information on code-compliant guardrail post connections. Thank you!

Can I use this for a gate latch

I have a wood landing out my back door, basically a small platform, maybe 4 foot by 6 foot, with a railing around half of it, one side open, and one side the house. I would like to use this to put a post to hold the latch, so I can attach a gate to the railing on the other side, would this support the latch post (which would be right next to the house)?

Hello Neal
This will work for mounting to your deck if you follow the directions. I would advise that you also attach the post towards it's top, to the House to provide lateral stability for the post as well.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by perfect for securing 4x4's in patio piers, i use concrete screws in the base and lag bolts in the sides October 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This base was exactly what I needed for anchoring several 4"X4" posts onto the new porch extension I built for my handicapped brother-in-law. It kept the post securely adding strength and rigidity when it was tied in with the roof overhang. It was easy to secure it to the flooring and the only drawback was having to whittle a small amount of the 4X4 on 1 side to fit snugly inside of it. October 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by strong support Easy to work with on moving around maintains 4x4 in place August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked well on the bottom of a 4x4 post I used this on the bottom of a 4x4 post along with an adjustable bracket and it work fine. No complaints. August 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, limited applications Not structurally thick enough for post base applications - better used as a beam-to-beam fastener. Still, another high quality product from Simpson. Download Simpson's pocket reference guide before you buy, and decipher the Ikea-like picture/instructions before deciding on your fastener! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Home Depot Item for doing it right Rather than using bulky and unsightful fasteners, these units make deck framing easy and to code. February 23, 2016
