Customer Questions & Answers

is this receptacle considered waterproof?

is this receptacle considered waterproof?
Asked by: tony
Thank you for your inquiry about RACO floor boxes. This product is not waterproof. The definition of waterproof would require it to withstand submersion. The gasket is designed and intended for it to withstand light mopping but not saturation.

Does this come in a satin nickel finish instead of the brass

The color of the floor tile is a light gray which would not go with the color of the floor box. Does this come in any other color aside from brass? Thanks

Customer Reviews

Single Gang Floor Box Kit, Nickel Finish with Recessed Duplex 15A TR Device and Adjustable Steel Box is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Box looks good and works great Install was pretty simple - cut a hole in the dimensions they recommend - run wire, connect wire to box - then drop into floor. Only issue I'm having - I think the brass screws that hold the plate down are too short for what I'm doing. - My subfloor is plywood, with fiber board on top and my plate is on carpet. - I think the carpet makes the brass screw too short to get to the plywood and one of the 4 screws that came with would not connect up. - I'll find longer versions of the brass screw and retry, but for now - 3 are solidly attached, plate looks good and works great. - I'd recommend it definitely!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great choice for a floor outlet This is a great floor outlet. It looks nice on wooden floors. A plus is the plug goes down into the box, allowing furniture to be placed directly over it. Installation was easy. Only drawback, and it's only a small one, is the door is a little hard to open. Not a big problem as you probably won't be opening and closing it often.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product, Difficult Installation I’m using this in the middle of our kitchen by our prep table, so aesthetics is important. I really like that the plug concealed when in the floor box. That’s the main reason I choose this versus some other Raco or Allied Moulded floor box. The installation is a bit of pain, since the tolerance is a bit tight (~ 1/8”) between when the cutout being too small for the floor box, and too big for hang tab. Instead of using one big hole saw to cut the hole to size. I had to cut four corner holes and jig saw the straight sides. Fortunately, installation after the cut out phase is a cinch. It looks great. I’m giving it 3 stars for the difficult installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. I'm a 50+ year old woman who enjoys working on a variety of home projects. It was very easy to install. I liked that the plug ends are not visible but recessed within the unit. However, I wish they would've offered different cover options, as I'm not crazy about gold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me I wanted a floor box that allowed only the cord to "stick out". My electrician recommended this. It is just what I wanted. He explained he quit using it because it required significant extra labor to do the cutout (not a standard rectangle) and as others have noted the cutout in the directions is too large (a real fail by the manufacturer to correct). But he said it was an excellent choice and since I'm on cost plus, it's my decision. But the box was less than the other 2 choices my husband found on line! I think I will be net the same cost all in box & labor. So I get what I want. I also was satisfied w/my first time ordering on line to pick up at my/our nearby store. Like that too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product - Lousy Instructions This is a good product but the instructions are too brief and omit important information. I have wired many outlets in the past so I don't need a lot of instruction but if you have limited experience I would recommend you buy a product that will give you some written guidance. Please download and read the instructions listed on the Home Depot product page to see if they will work for you. By the way, when you cut out the template you also cut through the instructions because they are on the other side of the paper. So either make a copy of the template or print it off the Home Depot web site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality for the money! I installed this box in our carpeted living room, with no problems. Very well made and cost less than the plastic box and cover I installed in another room earlier. Easy to install if your a good handy man, if you don't know much about wiring you might want to hire someone who does, especially if your not just replacing a previous outlet and you need to run wiring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice design and relatively easy to install I installed these in my living room floor, while I was finishing the basement. I wanted to have a way to get power outlets into my great room with minimal effort, and these provided the appearance and functionality that I was looking for. They installed easily after cutting the existing carpet and subfloor. The cover is very sturdy and almost difficult to open, so it's not something you'll get into on a regular basis. There's plenty of room in the recessed box for reasonable sized cords, without them sticking out of the box.
