Customer Questions & Answers

Is this lead free and safe for ice/drinking water?

Asked by: JayR
I will assume you are referring to the Watts a-4 Ander-Lign compression nut... There is a warning on the instruction insert (not on the outside of the package!!!) that the part(s) are not California Proposition 65 compliant..."contains chemical compounds known to the State of California to cause cancer" etc.

1/4 in. Brass Compression Nut with Insert is rated 1.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It fits on metal pipe not plastic It is poorly advertised but someone mentioned plastic pipe. It won't thread on plastic pipe but will receive 1/4 inch PEX, which is what I think the descriptors were getting at. It will fit fine on 1/4 metal or brass threaded pipe, which is how it should be used.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor design Like others have said, the tolerances are messed up, and a lot of magic is required to get the ferrule to fit over a 1/4" OD copper pipe (eg. liquid nitrogen dipper copper into molten fitting). Also, why include the brass insert if that's only for plastic pipes where you should only be using a plastic ferrule, and... this has an integrated ferrule with a proprietary design such that if you knock out the integrated ferrule, you're left with a receiver fitting that isn't really compatible with standalone double-taper (plastic or brass) ferrules!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product The nut will NOT fit over 1/4" plastic tubing. Two hours wasted, thought it was because I'm a woman and not strong enough, reading the reviews made me feel a little better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Fit The nut will NOT fit over 1/4" copper tubing, as designed and advertised!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compression nut and ferrule You're not supposed to use the insert with copper tubing! It's only for PVC or other plastic pipe.
Date published: 2014-09-04
Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality Bought to use to connect PEX tubing to standard 1/4" valve compression fitting. Ferrule was so out of tolerance that the flared end would not fit inside the valve fitting AND the undersize ID of the "universal" ferrule (or in combination with an oversize ferrule tube body) would not slide over the tube-inserted ferrule. Completely useless. The tolerances of this type fitting has to be maintained to a precise degree...these were machined improperly. Will next resort to push-type fitting as I cannot trust these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor product Thee insert does not fit well inside the copper pipe the feral does not fit well around the copper pipe leaving the product useless. Buy a swagelock fitting, fits right the first time and forever.
