Customer Questions & Answers

After installing the valve will it shut of the water supply? Or once you install it is it always live?

Asked by: Bhw1969
No, it does not shut off the water supply for the pipe it is attached to. The valve only controls the flow for the new tube that you are attaching.

Copper to ice maker

I just bought one of these and am looking at it before I start a replacement. The current line to ice maker is copper and I see a regular brass ferrule is not included in kit. I've only seen the tube with a flare that is included only used on plastic line. Do I use the tube with the copper? or now that I've spent ten bucks I gotta go back buy 1/4 brass ferrule?
Asked by: DisgustedandHeartBroken
The plastic delrin sleeve should only be used on plastic tubing. A brass ferrule should be used on copper tubing.

Is this saddle OK to install on flexible plastic tubing?

I want to add instant hot water dispenser to my kitchen. I purchased this saddle valve to puncture/tap into my cold water tube that goes to the single-handle kitchen faucet. This tubing is very hard flexible tubing. will this saddle valve be a tight, problem-free connection???? Is this saddle valve for tapping to a copper tube only???
Asked by: coljoe
The saddle valve is not recommended for use on plastic tubing. A tee should be cut in with a valve installed on the branch to the hot water dispenser.

1/4 in. x 1/4 in. Lead-Free Brass Compression x Compression Self-Tapping Saddle Valve is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is possibly the dumbest idea I have ever seen. I have one of these in my wall. I went to shut it off because we had an issue with the feed line. Now when I turned it back on it is leaking. But this leads me to ask. Who thought this was a good idea to begin with? I realize you probably aren't supposed to put this in a wall on the 3rd floor, but it still makes no sense. Sure, it is a quick and dirty fix, but eventually this thing has to break down and start leaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great so easy to install I thought I did it wrong I expected this to be relatively easy to install but not that easy. Got the screws tightened don and turned the handle and we were in business. I couldn't believe it, no effort at all. Absolutely no leaks. For anyone dreading installing one of these to get water to your ice maker- don't. I was too but after doing it I wish I hadn't waited. It was so worth it.
