Copper to ice maker

This question is from 1/4 in. x 1/4 in. Lead-Free Brass Compression x Compression Self-Tapping Saddle Valve
August 25, 2015
I just bought one of these and am looking at it before I start a replacement. The current line to ice maker is copper and I see a regular brass ferrule is not included in kit. I've only seen the tube with a flare that is included only used on plastic line. Do I use the tube with the copper? or now that I've spent ten bucks I gotta go back buy 1/4 brass ferrule?

Answer:
The saddle valve is not recommended for use on plastic tubing. A tee should be cut in with a valve installed on the branch to the hot water dispenser.

Answer:
The maximum working temperature for this particular valve is 250ºF, however, it is recommended that the temperature rating for the type of tubing you are using should be used for the application.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This is possibly the dumbest idea I have ever seen. I have one of these in my wall. I went to shut it off because we had an issue with the feed line. Now when I turned it back on it is leaking. But this leads me to ask. Who thought this was a good idea to begin with? I realize you probably aren't supposed to put this in a wall on the 3rd floor, but it still makes no sense. Sure, it is a quick and dirty fix, but eventually this thing has to break down and start leaking. August 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great so easy to install I thought I did it wrong I expected this to be relatively easy to install but not that easy. Got the screws tightened don and turned the handle and we were in business. I couldn't believe it, no effort at all. Absolutely no leaks. For anyone dreading installing one of these to get water to your ice maker- don't. I was too but after doing it I wish I hadn't waited. It was so worth it. September 20, 2014
