Connection Question

Do the nut-like ends of this come off to expose the threads on the outside?
Asked by: TBone
Yes, the nuts come off. They are standard 3/8 compression fittings. It comes with the nut and swage rings. It also comes with insert tubes for when you are using plastic tubing (keeps swage ring from collapsing the plastic tubing)

Bought this to replace a similar valve located under my kitchen sink, which supplies water to the refrigerator ice maker. I needed to replace the old valve because when the ice maker malfunctioned, I was not able to completely shut off the water supply, which left a puddle under my refrigerator. After replacing the old valve with this new one, water continued to slowly flow through the supply line in spite of the shut off valve being completely closed. Figured I got a lemon, so I exchanged it with another one at HD, but same thing...continued to drip. Rather disappointed because it is actually Made in USA. Don't waste your $!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Manufacturing error? This valve would be really handy if made right, but I think there is a flaw in the manufacturing process and this prevents it from shutting off. The inlet hole is drilled through the surface that the needle is supossed to seal against. So even when the needle is in the fully shut off position, a portion of the inlet hole extends below it, allowing water to flow even when the valve is shut off tightly. I suspect this surface was supposed to be drilled just a little deeper so that it is not interrupted by the hole. When I checked a few others in the store (including one which apeared to be returned), they all had this same problem. Before buying unscrew the packing nut that holds the T-handle and look in the hole of the valve body: that first ridge should be a smooth circle all the way around and the inlet hole should be completely above it. If instead this ridge is notched by the inlet hole coming in, then do not buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not shut off completely I agree with the other reviewer. The one that I purchased has the same flaw that prevents it from sealing. Luckily I don't need it to seal as it is only being used to throttle fluid flow in my application, but beware that it may not shut off for you. Check it in the store before you buy!
