Do you need to use plumbers tape?

Do you need to use plumbers tape?
Asked by: Homer
No, tape is not required since the arrester comes with seals or orings.

Does this thing need to to expand in order to function?

Asked by: Suze
Not externally. Most arrestors have a piston that moves slightly when the water is shut off, but that's all internal.

Does the arrester tube have to be installed oriented directly at 12 o'clock?

Asked by: Andy
No it is a pressurized vessel with air on one side of a piston and water on the other. The water pressure in your home pushes the piston towards the closed end and compresses the air on the closed side. It will work in any position.

How far does this stick out from the wall?

If the depth of the mini rester is 8" + 30" depth of washer and dryer the total depth to the front of the washer and dryer-- protrudes 38" from the wall?
Asked by: smcderm55
These should be installed directly to the washer. How much they stick out depends on the washer inlet location. Pictured is LG washer.

Mini-Rester 3/4 in. x 3/4 in. FHT x MHT Washing Machine Arrester is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed issue with LG front-load Moved into new house and installed our front-load LG HE washing machine. Each time the water would fill, we had a squeak or chirp in our master bathroom toilet fill valve due to the back pressure when the water flow would stop. Changing out the toilet fill valve did not solve the problem. Installed one of these valves on each of the washing machine supply lines and it has so far eliminated the issue. Easy installation all around. Hardest thing was having to pull the washing machine out far enough to give me some working clearance since we have a cabinet above the washer and dryer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick Fix for Washing Machine Water Hammer Purchased a pair of these to eliminate some severe water hammer during the fill cycles of my new LG washer, and they worked great. Installed both very easily in 10 minutes, and now no hint of water hammer. Though this is inherently LG's issue (had no water hammer problems with my previous washer, which was also an HE front-loader), I imagine it is much less trouble to drop $25 on a pair of these than to deal with LG. Especially since LG specifically states in their paperwork that water hammer isn't a warranty issue.

The first set I purchased about 2 years ago and have worked perfectly until now. The famous banging noise came back and was really annoying, almost to the point where I was going to tear open the drywall. Then I remembered the valves and thought to replace my original set and everything is quite again. I guess depending on how much laundry you do, the valves will eventually need to be replaced. But overall, this product is definitely a must, the first set I installed on the valves just off the wall and the new set I installed directly on the washer and both do the job well.

We moved into a house where the water supply lines for our washing machine had no no in-line anti-hammer plumbing. Our new washing machine was slamming the pipes rattling water lines throughout the house. Tight spacing dictated I attach the arresters directly to the washing machine and, while mine are set vertically, package instructions say that is not necessary. These well-made and modestly-priced arresters installed easily and instantly made the hammering a thing of the past; it seemed almost like a miracle. Love this product!

LG washer, when it fills up the pipes would rattle and bang, drove me crazy, I was going to go into the walls to put braces on the pipes until i stumbled across this, installed in 5 minutes (i put mine on the valves, not on the washer as the picture shows), MIRACLE, CANT BE HAPPIER, thanks Sioux Chief!

New construction so no idea what issues would have existed without them. Piping is all 1/2" PEX. On well water with a 90psi tank. No issues with backpressure spikes or banging.

I installed these on both hot and cold for an LG toploading washer and they had very little effect on the hammer. Going to have to upgrade to a more heavy duty arrestor option.
