Customer Questions & Answers

can i put LED bulbs in this unit?

Asked by: al
It is not recommended. Although they produce little heat, LED lamps do require air circulation around them to prevent internal heat build-up that could damage their electronic circuitry, resulting in premature lamp failure (this is why LED lamps have heat sinks). A sealed, enclosed fixture such as this will not allow adequate air flow, thus making it unsuitable for such use. Similarly, CFLs are not recommended either. Halogen and incandescent bulbs do not have this problem, as they are designed to run hot.

This light calls for R20 bulbs - but they dont fit.

Is there any other bulb I can use?
Asked by: HS
I just tested one I bought yesterday with a 50R20 and it fit fine. A higher wattage bulb may be longer. There was only about 1/4 inch clearance left with the 50W bulb.

What type of connector does it have?

I want to know if it will connect to the existing lighting I have.I cannot see the connection(wires)
Asked by: Jimm
It uses 1/2" standard threads. I am not going to use the supplied tube and cap and will mount on top of a 2x4 J-box.

Sitelight 100-Watt Post Mount Spot Light Kit - Bronze is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Commercial Quality at an affordable price This spot light compliments the other Red Dot Outdoor Domed Path Light also sold by Home Depot. Aluminum construction provides years of reliable service. I know, I put these in at my last house and they were still going strong after ten years of service. Requires some installation effort as these lights are "line voltage" not low voltage. The included PVC pipe attaches to the bottom of the fixture. You string direct burial 14/2 UFB cable between these lights. You will be rewarded however with a much brighter path light. This spot will accept the newer mini size CFL or the new R20 LED spot light bulb. Make sure these are attached to a GFI circuit for protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shining Bright! Easiest replacement process for 120V Landscape lights. Solidly built and yet low-profile in the garden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful to look at easy to install I bought the Thomas & Betts SiteLights because I have existing line voltage (120v) landscape lighting with old-style large, "car dealership" sized par 45 aluminum housings with incandescent bulbs. They look ridicous, and out-of-date in the garden. I wanted a smaller foot print, and full cut off, and was committed to change to more efficient Par 20 LED's. Disconnecting the thirty-year old existing fixtures--corroded and broken--was the hardest part of the job. The Thomas & Betts post mount that is included with the light was a snap to install and wire up. Plus, everything I needed--including a corrosion inhibitor for all the threaded connections--was included in the kit. The only thing I had to provide was a Phillips head screwdriver, a small hand shovel and a light bulb. The fixture will accept all par 20's, including standard incandescents, halogens and new LED's. The fixture was well made, and went together solidly. And, even though it is intiuitively easy to figure out, it comes with logical well worded instructions--just in case... What a difference! the fixture itself disappears into the garden, so the resulting uplight (my application here) is the only thing you see. I am now going to replace all in my garden, not just the broken two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT OUTDOOR FIXTURE> I AM AN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. THESE ARE THE BEST I ma an electrical contractor and use many different fixtures. For trees up to 20 feet, these fixtures are perfect. I've had them installed at MY HOUSE for the past 7 years. I used a small spiral fluorescent bulb (Needs to be 4" or less in length). I have had the same bulb for 7 years in all 6 lights at our 7 front trees. Last year, we had a huge flood in Florida. With 2 foot of water in our yard, these fixtures were a foot under water. That night while we were building temporary shelter for our horses, the timers came on and those lights lit under water for several hours before we noticed the light in the water from our security cameras. I went over and sure enough, all 6 were lit. And to this day, they are still lit, pointing straight up at the trees. GREAT FIXTURES Kurt...UNITED ELECTRICIANS, INC

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable fixture but bulbs now hard to find I had these installed about 7 years ago to light a sign and they have been durable. Recently the rubber gasket broke and I was able to get a replacement at the store. Currently I am having difficulty finding bulbs for this fixture. The R20 100 watt with 1000 lumens are no longer made. I have used a small halogen 75 watt and recently found the R20 100 watt online. So far I have not found an LED that works in an enclosed future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! I researched many different 110V landscape fixtures and these were not only the best value, they are excellent quality. All hardware is rust proof (magnet tested all). Used LED bulbs in them but make sure the bulb you choose will fit. Anything longer than 4" will not fit. Compare these to other fixtures that are $40-$90 each and you will choose these. To insure longevity, I ran a bead of clear silicone around the outside glass lens edge to make sure no water enters (I have them aimed upwards).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried and true....Part 2 4 out of 5 . Recommended Product . We bought these same RedDot outdoor lights (I mean the exact same ones...) 15yrs. ago and they are still working. Of course over time they are somewhat faded and are in need of replacement, but probably could go another 10 years. They are well built and durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best outdoor lights I bought these lights in 2000, and have had them for over 13 years now. There was some digging required to bury the electrical wire and the lower post. Once I had them installed, I added a timer to have them come on at pre determined times.I will say that they beat the low voltage lights hands down. The only thing I had to replace outside of the light bulbs, was the dome on the path way lights ( Model K822BR). Over time the dome and the clear round shield that is attached to the dome melts causing the top to come off. I believe that the heat generated from the bulb ( 40 watt) inside of the dome, has little chance to escape causing this condition. I will point out that I have only had to replace three domes out of five over thirteen years. If you contact the company, they will send a replacement free of charge. I recommend these lights for the light they put out, appearance, and durabality.
