Difference between Skil and Skilsaw

I have noticed some of the saws are branded Skil and some Skilsaw. There i even a different website for each. From what I can see, is that Skilsaw branded tools, including circular saws and now even a worm drive table saw are pretty good quality. However, the Skil branded tools are of somewhat lower quality.

Can someone explain to me the difference in the two and/or history of the two?

Saw is completely dead. It's like it isn't even plugged in. Checked outlet and it is working.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Utter Garbage Got this for Christmas. My first opportunity to use it was this week. Problem is, it was missing the wrench. So I brought out my ratchet set - but the screw turned with the shaft....and would not come off. I still can't put the blade on. What would have taken 5 minutes with my old saw has now turned into a two hour fiasco. What a waste of money. July 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A real clunker I guess I should not have expected much for the price, but EVEN AT THIS PRICE, the overall build quality of this saw was still cheesy. I'm a construction professional and I own a dozen yellow lightweight saws and I needed this one for a job in another location since we were on a tight budget. First thing I noticed right out of the box was the way that the cheap plastic housing pieces didn't fit. Then that shoe... could they have made it ANY thinner?? The shoe mounting hardware is very light-duty, especially for a saw that weighs as much as this one. The black finish on the shoe and hardware was already showing rust, right out of the box, so I could only imagine what it would look like over time. A rusty, corroded shoe adversely affects the performance of any circular saw. But the real deal breaker was that the shoe was both warped and not aligned with the blade. Yes, I may have just gotten a bad one, but I still returned this saw and bought another yellow lightweight saw locally. We recently threw away an old Skil circular saw. I mean OLD. I bought it new in early 1943. It still ran fine but because it was so heavy and clunky, we used it mainly on fiber cement board and other materials that we now cut with the new DWE575's. But it amazes me how similar these two saws were. They looked like they came off the same exact assembly line, the only difference being that the motor case and handle case are cheap plastic on the new one. Oh, and the build quality on the 73-year-old-saw was much better. I gave it 1 star because it was literally useless to me. If there were an option for zero stars, that would be my rating. The bad shoe was a total deal breaker. January 1, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great features This is the first time owning this brand. It has been really great. The 2-point line of sight has been real handy. Anti-snag lower guard is a great feature. April 20, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Wanted a small circular saw for smaller woodworking projects. (I have a large one.) Hard to see where I'm going with it and no matter which blade I use it stalls towards the end of the cut even tho the item is level. Should have paid more for better. April 15, 2014
