So is the "table mounting" mean the "stand" that is pictured on the page, or does that just mean it comes with hardware to mount it to a table?

Thank you for your question. The 3317-01 comes with the miter saw only, the stand is sold separately. The miter saw has a quick mount system for attaching to the Skil miter saw stand.

In the details it states the saw at 90 degrees will cut 4 x 4 dimensional lumber. Is that true?

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Yes, the Skil 3317 miter saw can do bevel cuts. There are two factory set bevel stops at 0 degrees and 45 degrees, however you can set the bevel angle in any range from 0 degrees to 45 degrees.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 24 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Features. Needs Tuned The saw came 80% assembled out of the box. There seem to be a some tolerance issues between the miter gauge and the fence. Assuming the saw can be tuned and dialed in, it's a great tool for a novice DIYer. I love the laser feature, but the dust bag seems a little cheap (which isn't a problem if your saw remains stationary and you can hook up dust collection, but my space requires a mobile saw table), and the removable clamp tends to lift or twist stock that isn't at least 2x_ (which again is trivial; just use your off hand). Despite some of the minor flaws in the accessories, with a bit of time to tune the saw's precision, it would be a great foundational piece for any burgeoning handyman. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw Solid saw. A good fit for DIY. Looks and performs like a much more expensive saw. Accurate & sharp. Cuts easily. Sets up in a minute. Other saws for this price seemed chincy, this saw feels so durable. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value Great value for the money. Very easy to use straight out of the box! July 5, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect cuts for crown molding The set up was very easy. The saw is also easy to adjust. Very pleased with the product March 22, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mine developed some problems Cuts well, the laser line is convenient. Note that the '10 inch' refers to the blade diameter (I guess); you can't cut anything bigger than a 2x6 with this saw. I personally found the safety on the handle occasionally inconvenient, as some pieces are easier to cut if you can retract the guard with your right thumb (which I can no longer do with this saw), but I think that's probably a minority opinion. However, this saw developed a couple of problems within a year of my getting it. First, the diecast aluminum fence warped slightly over time, probably because of inadequate strain relief (annealing) in the manufacturing process. Where the left and right fence were initially aligned, the fence casting contracted over time so that they are now about 2/3 of a degree out of plane with one another, and some unknown amount out of square with the blade. No longer possible to cut a square end to something without first figuring out which half of the fence to use (and they may both be off). Second, the laser guide got knocked out of line somehow so that it now points a couple of degrees to the left of the actual cut. It may be possible to fix it somehow, but why would it get out of line in the first place? August 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Complete package This miter saw is perfect for a home workshop saw that has the features needed for home projects. It's lightweight so it would be easy to move around if you need to, but can be bolted down onto your workbench if you want it stablized. It ripped through it's first project with ease, cutting fast and sharp without splintering up the wood, the miter settings are easy to use and it has detentes for common cuts. The blade was easy to control with very little friction allowing for precise control (useful for a check cut, but typically you're ripping all the way through anyway) The cutting surface has grooves cut into it to keep your work sliding around on the aluminum plate. The laser was pre-calibrated on mine so I didn't have to adjust it, lining up dead center of the cut. I am frequently of the opinion that it's worth buying quality in tools, and I wouldn't classify this as cheap, it's solidly built and I don't suspect it'll be falling apart through any of my moderate-heavy home usage (I couldn't say for work-site level usage). Yet it's priced like a cheaper no-name brand saw. June 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Daily use mitre saw at a value The packaging for the saw appears to be sufficient. The box was in tact and the saw unit was encased in foam (see image). Very minimal assembly is required for several of the add on parts (see image). It should take 5 minutes or less to snap the parts on or thread them in. The saw unit itself is built well and has been reliable thus far. The unit is light weight and easy to move around when moving from project to project. The compound mitre abilities come in handy when working with trim or multiple angled cuts. It is nice to have an option to lay the flat side of trim/molding material down when making the cut to ensure the cut true. The 9 common stops make for quick adjustments and true straight, left angle, and right angle cuts at common angles. The provided rough cut blade works well for rough cuts but it is just that - a rough cut blade. Finish work will require 40+ tooth blade. Blade changes are not tool-less but not complicated either. The laser line is accurate with the understanding that(at least in my case) it is always aligned to have the drop off on the right side (see image). Take notice as to where the teeth of the blade land on the material prior to cutting. The horizontal clamping system does work and is a great safety addition for making cuts in 4x4's. I would likely not use the clamping system if I was trimming out a room or making a lot of cuts as it takes more time to thread in the clamp that it does to simply hold a small piece of material in place. The the extended fence does not line up flush against the fence on the base (see image). This is not a major issue but beware, if you hold the material up against the extended fence it could throw the angle of the cut off by a few degrees. This can be avoided by ensuring the material is flat against the fence on the aluminum base. The small metal guide that holds the dust bag up broke off from the tension ring that attaches to the back of the saw (see image). This causes the dust collecting bag to sag down and likely blocks some of the dust from making it into the bag. I am not sure if the damage occurred in shipment, while in my possession, or if it was faulty but find it is a minor flaw. I have removed the collecting bag as I have found the dust chute works best with an active dust collector/shop vac, not a passive bag. December 9, 2013
