Questions & Answers

stand

Can you use it with out the stand? When you collapse the stand how tall is the saw with the stand attached? I am trying to figure out where I can store it when it is not in use.
Asked by: mtthws
Yes, you can use it without the stand. Collapsing the stand requires disconnecting it from the saw, so you need to store them as separate pieces.

Can it cut a 4' x 8' plywood in half lengthwise?

Asked by: Amf
Yes. In order to cut a 4 ft. x 8 ft. sheet you would need a fence that extends 24 in. It wouldn't be particularly safe to ct a full sheet lengthwise on any portable table saw like this one unless you had a helper present or specialized equipment like roller tables in use, preferably both.

is it easy to adjust the blade

is it easy to adjust the blade
Asked by: Don
Like all tables saws, this one lets you adjust the angle of the blade as well as the height of the blade above the table. Both adjustments seem reliable (although I seldom use the angle feature, I like my blade to be absolutely square to the table and, once I get it square, I tend to leave it alone. The good news is, as I use the table saw, raising and lowering the blade with the crank on front, it seems to always stay square. Except for the tabs in the miter slots this is an excellent value small contractor table saw. I'm not sure why Skil put those tabs there, it prevents you from using standard miter blocks to build jigs.

Laminate Floor Install

I 'm a fairly able do it yourself type of person and I was wondering if this table saw would be able to make the cuts needed that a miter saw could do, or should I buy the miter saw and this table saw. I don't do anything special like hobbies or crafts. I just need to install flooring and upgrade my deck. Thanks for your valued opinions ahead of time.
Asked by: jim3000gt
You can make all of the cuts you need with the addition of a simple sled which you can easily make in your shop. You will pretty much need this for cross cuts and miter cuts as the miter gauge, as is common on inexpensive saws, will not help you much due to it's imprecise adjustment.

Since it wasn’t available at my local Home Depot i took advantage of the free shipping and had it delivered to my house. UPS delivered it on schedule and the box arrived in very good condition. Assemble instructions are straight forward and it took about 90 minutes to setup and make slight adjustments to the fence to get it aligned properly. As reviewers have stated, I also ordered a fine-tooth blade, however I found the supplied blade was sufficient for my cutting needs. I ripped several 2X4 and the saw preformed faultlessly. The 15amp motor easily ripped eight-foot-long stock and didn’t bog down. So far I extremely pleased with this buy and would recommend this saw to anyone with a limited budget.

I just installed an oak staircase leading to my basement and needed something to rip the treads and risers better than a circular saw. I am a novice at table saws so I bought this based on some online recommendations. Turns out this was just what I needed to do the job. Factory settings were accurate so I didn't need to adjust. The ripping fence has a ruler on the slide that is also accurate. It took some work to assemble. Again, I am a novice on table saws and the instructions seemed out of order. There was a Styrofoam block beneath the table and it took me a while to figure out that you need to tilt the saw blade to the 45 degree angle to get it out so give yourself an hour. But the saw itself works great. I bought a separate 60-tooth blade to cut the finished oak and made nice clean cuts. I would recommend this to anyone who is a weekend do-it-yourselfer like me.

Still running fine and I keep telling myself I'm going to sell it and get an upgrade for a higher end saw but this one keeps doing the job I need it to do. The rip fence is accurate and easy to adjust, I would want a better quality miter fence the black plastic makes it difficult to see the lines and numbers. This is the saw if you're on a budget.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy Came quickly in the mail from Home Depot as expected. Easy assembly. Took my time and followed the directions to fine tune the saw. There was very minimal tuning required. Started by ripping 2x8 boards cut to 4 ft lengths. The fence was rock stable and the saw had no issues ripping 2 inch pieces. I am very happy with this saw. I will rig up some type of dust collection but not a deal breaker. Rock solid. Easy to use. I am very happy.

I bought this saw unseen because of the portability and stability of the saw support. I returned the saw to Home Depot because the miter tool and track were poorly designed with too much play which made for poor cuts. I also wasn't excited about the fence. I bought a Ridgid table saw for not that much more and am much happier with it.

I found this a little complicated to set up the first time, but not terrible. It did come with good instructions. The cutting is truly amazing...I was able to cut even a tiny, 1/8" sliver off of a large piece of wood and have it come out perfectly. It is very heavy, and very sturdy, so I anticipate being able to use it for many years.
