I switched from my dewalt circular saw to this wormdrive on the recommendation of a carpenter I know. He was right on every point. Sight lines are amazing with the left handed blade, the saw has more than enough power, I don't have the manually move the guard out the way like I used to for most cuts either.
My only concern was the amount of sparks that come out of the bushings area when I use it. Seems a bit excessive and I hope this isn't indicative of something being improperly installed at the factory. As long as I keep checking them and they last a decent amount of time I will be happy though.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Carl The design could easily be better
You want to make good cuts with your worm drive saw right? The wider side of the foot plate is the preferred guidance side to keep a deep blade cut square.
For that the saw needs a wider foot plate. The foot plate should be wide enough for either edge to be used with a straight edge guide. Currently, the oil fill housing and the external bolt boss on the armature shell, interfere and defeat that use on the precision preferred side. The Magnesium foot is better than the old warped metal plate but it is time to update to a professional user friendly design with a wider plate.

I have an older skil wormdrive that was handed down from my father ( a 40year carpenter) and it still runs like a champ! I live on the coast in Charleston,Sc and people think I'm crazy using the worm drives for framing. They are astonished by the capability these saws produce. The only difference with this Mag77 and the older (made in America) skil I have is the weight. Either pro or amateur this saw leaves the others in sawdust so to speak! Keep them oiled and they will last a lifetime! FYI the old skil I still use for framing was made in 1980 and still going strong!

Don't bother looking at anything else. Just get this one. It's a great saw and will last many years. I've had mine for about 5 years now, and it's still one of my favorite tools that I own. It's runs so smoothly, has a great base plate and a great weight to it. It's a saw that's been around for 40 years for a reason.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Okie Never going back to a sidewinder, ever.
I can't believe I shy'd away from worm drive saws for so many years. The bearings in my B&D sidewinder recently went out so I tried just about every saw at my local Home Depot. I was very disappointed in how the other brands of sidewinder style saws didn't track straight when cutting long pieces of plywood. After much disgust I reluctantly pulled the trigger on the most expensive worm drive saw that HD sells. To my great pleasure, I was amazed at how effortlessly it was to cut perfectly straight lines, absent of drift, with this saw. All those years working on job sites thinking that these saws were just too heavy and were just for frame carpenters with big biceps, i was wrong. Yes this saw is a little heavier than the average circular saw but the wood supports the weight, and I just have to push it across the board. The additional weight and cutting power is what makes this saw cut so well. If you appreciate a well made and straight cutting saw you won't be disappointed in purchasing this saw.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JohnAllTrades I like the narrow width and power vs weight.
My first power tool as a home owner was a Skilsaw which a built a redwood deck with. It still works perfectly, even with the now its shorted 12" cord(LOL). Anyway, I now have a thriving home improvement business and wanted to upgrade the weakest link in my toolbox, my Skilsaw 5350. For quite some time I wanted to upgrade to a 77Mag series. I was on the fence between the SHD77M and the flasher MAG77-75, so I bought both. I weight them at home and decided to kept the lighter of the two. I think Skill weights them w/o their power cords since my measurements were much higher than their specs.
SHD77M (spec 14 pounds) actually weights 15.34 lb
MAG77-75 (spec 14 pounds) actually weights 15.40 lb

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EJStang Awesome saw, powers through anything, very rugged
I've had a "normal" circular saw for years and after using this saw for a garage construction project I will never go back to my old circular saw! This guy has loads of power, easy adjustments, a nice heavy cord, beefy bottom plate, it's just a fantastic saw and has been year after year. If you need to cut wood...you need this saw!
