Product Overview

Whether you're tackling a large home improvement project or putting the finishing touch on a workshop hobby, this Skil 5 in. Random Orbit Sander is the perfect tool for faster stock removal with smooth results. The pressure control indicator lets you know when the right amount of pressure is applied and warns you when there's too much. Random orbital action ensures a swirl-free finish while the pad brake eliminates gouging. Micro-filtration captures and contains fine dust particles to keep your work surface cleaner. A sealed switch keeps dust out of the tool for a long life. The dust canister is clear, removing the guess work of figuring out when to empty it.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. The 7492 sander does not have variable speed control so there is no way to slow down the sander for polishing applications. You can use a polishing pad however it is not recommended due to the fast speed.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy This is my 3rd random orbital sander. The first one lasted for years so I bought the newer model which broke down in a few months and took weeks to get replacement parts. When I saw the Skil in the store I was drawn to the dust collection system and the price. When my second sander quit, I ordered a Skil on line and received it very quickly. My first impression on opening the box was "this thing is heavy" I used it today for the first time. It ran very smooth and used half the discs that my previous sanders did for the same job. I didn't notice the extra weight and the job went quickly. The dust collector worked well and I didn't have to use a dust mask (though I probably should) on a hot summer day. With the ability to connect my vacuum, I will be able to use it in the house in the winter, when I can't work outside. August 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Sander for the Price! Drill has been wonderful so far. The plug-in feature allows you to sand without power drop-off. No complaints so far! June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little sander! Easy to use, the little vacuum attached reduced the dust, though there was still some in the air. Glad I made the purchase. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Sander quit working Only used this sander a couple of times and not it doesn't work. July 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice and Easy to Use I bought an older house, 40 years old, and the interior trim, cabinets and doors had all been previously stained. I received several quotes but they were $2,000.00 and up. I decided that since I could not afford to contract the work I would attempt it myself. After research and a lot of determination I attempted to do it myself. The orbital sander received excellent reviews plus it didn't put saw dust everywhere. After using it on several door and the bathroom cabinet I have been very impressed with the ease of use and the quality. I am looking forward to tackling my kitchen cabinets but could not do it without a decent quality sander. I strongly recommend it, even my boyfriend was impressed with the high quality for the price. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by i use skill products and this is a good one I bout this and am very happy with it, I need to know if you can change the filter in the canister?????? April 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Skil orbital sander I am building a cedar strip canoe and needed a good orbital sander for the job. The Skil sander has a rubber guard around the edge which is a great added feature to prevent bangs on the thin wood strips at the bow and stern. It is so easy to take off a used disc and change to a new one. I sand down old steel bicycle frames too. I have several other types of sanders, but this is a terrific new tool for my use! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT SANDER EXCEPT FOR POWER CORD VERY PLEASED WITH THIS ORBITAL SANDER WORKS FINE EXCEPT FOR THE STIFF PLASTIC POWER CORD, WHY SKILL DOESN'T USE A RUBBER POWER CORD? February 18, 2016
