Purchased in March, used on a small project and put away until yesterday. Got it out to sand a bar and within 15 minutes it had broken loose from the front screw and shredded a 10 dollar belt. Of course I'm passed the window to return it to the store, so for prepaid shipping both ways (25 dollars) I can have a 50 dollar tool repaired at the factory.
My story is the same as the other reviewer, I usually buy quality tools but how much would I really use a belt sander? So I tried to go cheap and now I'll have the original cost plus the price of a real tool. I don't think I'll pump another 25 into a tool that will probably break after another 15 minutes and shread another 10 dollar belt.

I bought this product to sand the old roofing material off my RV before replacing the rubber top.
The canister filter has an issue if you make the mistake of using a shop vac to remove the sawdust. The shop vac pulls the end of the filter right off thus making the canister ineffective.
This sander works better when the user takes his/her time and doesn't try to apply large down force which will heat up the unit quickly and burn belts up even faster.
Overall, it is a good little sander but not "pro grade" quality for heavy, long term use.

Spend the extra money on the Dewalt or Porter Cable. I usually buy quality tools, but opted for this cheaper model because I don't foresee myself using it as much as other tools. I thought I could "get away with" a less expensive one in that regard. However, immediately out of the box the belt failed to track correctly, despite being "factory adjusted" according to the owner's manual. No adjustments could fix the problem, either. After only a few minutes of working the belt threw. I'm taking it back and spending the money on the Porter Cable!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by sander The auto tracking is a great feature but,
It is great as far as auto tracking gos but the motor needs to be made better so as to not fail after 46 hours of use the caseing just melts the motor quit and started to smoke it should be made better .
When it is made better I will buy it but for now I would not buy .
Skil is a good tool I have a lot of the saws that they make and all still work fine and they are over 15 years old.

Do not buy sander the belts will not track correctly. The original belt that came on the sander did not last 5 minutes. Save your self the trouble spend a little more and get a better quality sander.
