Customer Questions & Answers

What is the allen wrench for ??

Why is a allen wrench mounted on the power cord ?? What is it's purpose ??
Asked by: Iggy
hmmmm, just watched a video on this saw and the blade change shown is keyless/wrenchless. you flip that lever thing up near the front of the saw. the allen wrench appears to be for the telescoping shoe adjustment, though that part of the video went a bit quick. so i'm a bit confused that the Skil rep says the blade lock needs the allen wrench.

Is this good for cutting small wooden sculptures?

Is this easy to use for small wooden projects like simple sculptures and such?
Asked by: Woody
Thank you for your question. Reciprocating saws are designed for demolition applications or rough carpentry and cuts. If you are looking for a saw that will do small intricate work we would recommend a jigsaw like our model 4390 or 4495: http://www.homedepot.com/p/compare/?errorURL=ProductAttributeErrorView&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&prodComp_0=204625827&prodComp_1=202815221&keyword=skil%20jigsaw

After years of doing my own yard maintenance, I finally bought this electric Skil saw to cut down golden hawaiian bamboos and small palm trees, etc... I wish I 'd bought it years ago; with a 6" wood blade, it cuts through a 3" to 4" thick bamboo trunk in seconds, a lot faster than with a pruning saw and no sweat. Also important for yard work, and unlike a chain saw, this can take care of trunk stumps or roots well below the soil line. It will be used only few times a year, so I didn't need a big name HD tool @ twice the price. This is powerful enough for my application. Weighs 7.4# on my accurate scale; dialed in variable speed- better than finger pressure; quick blade change. In short, as a DIY'selfer, very happy with this saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the quick attachment for the blade Got this in December, only used it a couple of times but good power and and low vibration, makes it very nice. Glad I got it, and would recommend it anyone that needs a saw like this!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't even last a year. Didn't even last a year at moderate use. (used maybe 4 times) The adjustable foot broke off. Tried 3 months now to get a part from them and then they sent something after some reminders (system glitch they blamed it on) and it was the wrong part. They sent a small screw and we need something more like a bolt to hold the foot together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from bad shipping practices The product is great, but Home Depot chose to ship it in only the shelf packaging. On arrival one end of the box was completely missing and the only thing holding the product in was a cardboard end cap. Fortunately the product SEEMS to have suffered no damage. We'll see. This is a replacement saw, replacing the exact same product - it's very powerful and a real workhorse. Bosch now owns Skil and they make very good products. Bosch is a Siemens company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good value This a very good medium duty tool. I purchased it to help me rebuild a storm damaged patio deck. The 9 amp motor made short work out of cutting aluminum support pieces and bolts that would have taken me hours to cut with a hack saw. It easily cuts 4 X 4 wooden posts. I have also been using the saw to cut out tree roots that were getting close to the foundation. The blade lock mechanism is easy and quick to use when changing blades. For someone that has plenty of honey dos around the house or remodeling, this tool will do the job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blade Lock does not work I opened the box today and tried to use the saw and quickly discovered that blade locking mechanism is not working. Do not know whether it is a bad unit or design flaw.
