how to disassemble filter for cleaning
Asked by: bruinsman
Thank you for your question. To clean the filter: Remove canister from tool and knock excess dust out of the microfilter, or remove dust with your fingers or a soft brush. The canister itself does not come apart.

Factory Reconditioned Corded Electric 3 in. x 18 in. Power Belt Sander Kit with Pressure Control and Micro Filter is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from belt slides sideways I bought this a couple of months ago and it works fine except that the belt moves sideways whether or not you apply significant pressure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Skil quality that I knew from the past. I bought this product about 2 months ago to use for general woodworking projects in the home. This product gets very warm (hot) after normal use and the dust container fills up rapidly (it also discharged the filter after short use). I used it with my shop vac. My major problem is that it eats belts all the time and the adjusting screw doesn't work. I lost my receipt otherwise I would return it, guess I'm stuck with a product I can't use. I doubt very much if I would buy another skil product due to my experience with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Since purchase several months ago I have used this excellent tool on a variety of projects. Works well, contains most resultant dust, belt easy to replace. It does all a tool of this nature can do, and does it very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New tool Never used a belt sander before. Much better results than I expected. Project finished much quicker than I thought.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Micro filter fails in less than hour of use - can't be replaced?!!! FAIL! Sander shreds belts no matter how often you adjust the screw to keep it on track. Filter failed (round end disc came unglued from filter and got blown clear out of the plastic container along with all the rest of the dust until I gave up on this thing. Sander gets hot... really really hot within minutes. Tried using sander for 10 minutes. (Adjusted belt 4 times per 10 minutes to attempt to get it to not shred belts). Vacuumed sander body out after tapping out the worthless dust reservoir and setting it aside to cool down. Discovered motor full of dust. Set sander in front of fan for an hour to cool down so I could use it again. Repeated this slow process four times with no improvement in performance. I didn't buy expensive belts so belt failure I could accept but the belts are failing... they are getting shredded. I will be returning this to the store from whence it came and getting a different model. I do not recommend. Not well thought out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price I know the first guy didn't give this a good review, but I found this product to be very good for the price. I've probably logged over 4 hours of use on this machine and the only complaint I have is that the filter does fill up fast and will blow off, you just have to keep it emptied regularly or use the shop vac attachment. I have been using inexpensive Harbor Freight belts on it and have not had one belt issue or slip on this tool. The project I purchased this for is to strip and rebuild kitchen cabinets, so it is getting a lot of use. Good product for the money, maybe first reviewer just got a bad one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Purchase I am a tool freak AND I love a good bargin. I purchased this sander to replace a worn out Skil 6x18 belt sander. Actually, I broke the bag on the old one, and a replacement was not available. Consequently, Home Depot had this refrub on sale so I ordered it in. It arrived quickly, and honestly, I should have bought one of these long ago. I really like how it works, particularly with the pressure control. Lastly, you cannot distinguish this refurb from a bradny new one. Got for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sandeer I bought this for refinishing my kitchen cabinets in place of a random orbital sander. There is NO comparison. Easy to change rolls, empty filter, and the pressure indicator is a nice addition. I would have given it 5 stars, but I loose some dust where the filter mates with the sander. It tends to escape new the keyway. Not a big deal, but it builds up over time
