This one worked the first time with no hassle. Had all necessary parts (you need your own Allen wrenches, but if you're playing with saws, you should already have a small set of those someplace).
I like saws. It is fun to cut boards.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Huba Good basic circular saw
This reconditioned circular saw was as described. Came with a very basic blade which would cut old bread but I would expect a short life expectancy at that! The rest was fine, of particular note I liked the bright red light by the switch, which indicated that the tool was "live" and thus accidental amputations of fingers could be avoided. It would have been better if a zippered bag had been provided for storing this saw. I also like the enclosed wrench which is tucked away conveniently, thus should not get lost. Fancy additions such as a "worm drive" and a laser are unnecessary for a basic circular saw. Some reviers complained about "plastic handles and components". I am pretty sure that my components will meet the demands of light to moderate duty.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by blaXmith Almost a good saw...
This saw is a great saw for the price. Power/weight ratio is outstanding, balance and feel are great. I've only had this saw a couple of weeks and the issues are... As a previous reviewer stated the blade guard doesn't open easily enough in many cases requiring a lift assist just to get started sawing. When the blade guard is closed it's just short of covering the blade (see attached photos). The cord seems to be PVC jacketed which might just as well be rigid plastic. The cord memory from packaging as well as the blade guard not closing completely allows this saw to auto-magically saw its' own cord off (see attached photos).

I bought this saw about a year ago and it does everything I need. I was surprised to find there was no blade lock, but also happily surprised to find I did not need that feature.
I did add paper shims on either side of the blade because of slippage. Now the saw cuts perfectly in all types of wood.
I planned to use this saw and a straightedge as a replacement for my old table saw, and am happy to report that my work-around is still doing the job.
I do grooves and dados with a router, and get all the accuracy I need for my projects.
Great saw, works well for lefties like me. Recommended for a SMALL shop.
Oh, and the moniker "Skil Saw" is still the term used whether it is a Skil or someone else's circular saw. I decided to get the original circular saw. Thanks, it works well.

I bought this saw to replace a dying B&D.
The Skil is a little heavier and the blade guard wont retract on it's own when starting a cut. You either have to lift the guard or give the saw a good nudge into the wood to get it to lift.
