Customer Questions & Answers

Is this compatible with Liftmaster

Asked by: joe
As long as the liftmaster is not the *MYQ* version, this unit should work with it.

Will this work with an old genie opener?

I don't know the model #
Asked by: Brian
Yes, this should work. It is wired into the wall switch (push button) that opens the door. When you activate the remote, it closes the push button circuit for you. Doesn't access the codes for the opener, just closes the push button circuit. I've had this before, worked great plus, you can get extra modules that let you open other garage doors. If it has a two wire, push button wall switch, this will work.

Does it work with Hallister type 11a?

Asked by: ray
If you mean Allister Type 11A garage door opener, it will work. The Allister is an old garage door opener and our past universal remote controls work well with Allister.

If this model is compatible with Sears garage door openers , is it compatible with models that are over 25 years old?

Asked by: Scout
Yes it could work with openers that are over 25 years old. You may need an additional 12VDC, 100mA, 3.5mm power supply to make it work.

3 Button Universal Remote Control Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than one might think from reading the description I installed this on an ancient Sears garage door opener that came with the house. It took me less than a minute to install it and program the remote. I have not fully tested the range, but it did work fine at the very end of the driveway, which is at least 80 feet from the receiver location. Aesthetically, I would like it better if the red light on the receiver didn't flash constantly, but one could stick a piece of tape over it if one cared. I also had no use for a three-button remote since the garage only has one door, but it was easy enough to just program all of the buttons into the receiver, so it doesn't matter which one gets pressed. By the way, in case you are trying to figure out just exactly what this thing does and couldn't really get it from the description, it is basically a replacement receiver that comes with a remote control. Reading between the lines, it was probably intended to solve the interference issues that came about when certain government agencies started using the frequencies that older garage door openers depend upon. On may garage door opener, the receiver was able to derive power from the garage door opener, so no additional power supply was required. The same company also offers a power supply for use in cases where the receiver cannot get the power it needs from the connected device. I think this would probably work with just about anything that would normally be activated by a low-voltage push-button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Alternative to Universal Garage Door Openers Wired this to the button that opens my garage because the remote was lost and the universal remotes didn't work (old system). This was a great (and cost effective) alternative than trying to buy a whole new garage opening system. Note: you will not be able to program your car's internal garage door opener with this however. I tried with my 2003 Nissan Maxima.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy 10 minute install I bought this to be able to add additional remotes to our almost 20 year old garage door opener as there aren't remotes available for it anymore. This option is a fantastic value and here's why: *Includes all the necessary tools. The wiring has a crimping box. There's also a small crimping tool included as well. It comes with double sided tape or screws and drywall anchors for attaching the receiver to the wall. The only tool I needed that wasn't included in the package was a screwdriver. *The receiver crimps directly into the existing wiring of your current opener wall switch. It even comes with a crimping tool. No additional wiring is needed to tie it into the current system. *I was expecting to have to find an AC power supply to make it work with the old opener, but fortunately it hooked right up. Overall, a great, well made, and easy to install device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product Perfect to add remote control to any push-button-only device -- ideal to use on garage doors prior to 1973(?) that do not have a synch button to pair-up a new portable remote. Highly recomend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works great! but needed adaptation for an old opener This universal remote control kit works very well but required adaptation before it would work with my very old Genie Garage Door Opener. I had to find a power supply and then had to run additional wires to the opener. The instructions were complete enough that I was able to easily adapt the remote to my purposes. For the price, this was an awesome purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from surprise surprise when I received this opener and looked at it and had a little laugh and my thought was this will never work but I hooked this new opener to the wires that were there and to my surprise it worked my remote works very good also am very satisfied with this product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and straight forward The product instructions are up front with the clause that if it does not work properly with an older door the extra power supply is needed. I tried without and it did not work so I ordered the exterior power supply - only 5 bucks or so - an it works perfectly. As always - thru Home Depot it was a trusted vendor transaction with no glitches.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Installation of the wiring is critical. The quick connector does not always make a good connection. One unit required an additional power supply on a unit listed as one it worked with. Technical assistance is spoty at best. If you have a problem cut the line and splice the receiver in.
