We have slant fin baseboard and need to replace enclosure. Will the enclosures available fit the existing baseboard. Seems some reviews express problems with installation. Could that be because they we not installing over slant fin product?
Asked by: Ike
The problems people have experienced are mostly likely for a myriad of different reasons. The most likely is that enclosure only is not built or intended to re-wrap existing element. Enclosure only is produced to act as a pipe chase in new installations. For example if you have a 10' wall and the heat load only calls for 5' of element ; the plumber may run 5' of complete and 5' of enclosure only, either for visual continuity or to hide the pipe. People do attempt to re-wrap existing element with new enclosure all the time. Depending on how the original enclosure was installed they have varying amounts of success. Sometimes it is just not possible without destroying the element. I would be more likely to do it during the summer. I would drain the system and replace the element at the same time. In the long run I think this is just easier.

Do you sell the facing of the baseboard by itself? I'm missing a portion of the facing I'd like to purchase on it's own. I need something that's about 3 feet long.
Asked by: Bayo
I am not 100% sure I know what you mean by "facing" so let me be specific so I don't create confusion. The Home Depot offers Slant Fin 30 series baseboard. The baseboard is offered as complete which means with element and as enclosure only meaning the enclosure with out element. Enclosure only is offered as sometimes it is needed to act as a pipe chase. So if you are looking for enclosure only, Yes it is available. And if you are looking for the front panel only it could also be ordered as a part. However keep in mind, There have been scores of companies over the years producing baseboard and each of them have made many profiles; all of which are different. So unless you have Slant Fin brand baseboard and it is 30 series the dimensions will not be the same and it will not fit. I would recommend that you go do the Slant Fin web site and open up a specification sheet for this product. Make sure it is what you have before going through the trouble and finding out if will not fit your needs.

Hardware included to mount enclosure to wall

Asked by: Joe
Baseboard does not come with hardware to attache it to the wall, for the simple reason that depending on what the wall is made of you will need different hardware. In my experience some contractors use nails where as others use screws.

Got my old cover off easily enough. Cut up the new one to size, installed the backing fine. I had a really hard time putting in the brackets on the backing behind the baseboard fins and then lo a behold the brackets don't come out far enough for me to install the front plate. Upon reading the decription over a few times I came to the conclusion that this must be a dummy cover for bare pipes. I now have wasted the price of the cover, because I can't return it, and suffered a ton of aggravation . A better description and an installation video would be more helpful!

We were re-doing the 50 year old bathroom and the baseboard needed to be replace. We bought the 3 foot replacement and to our surprise it was the same exact design as the old one. Since it was a retro-fit job it was a little work to get it in correctly, but it looks great. Note ... should have put it in place before the tile. It would have give us more room to work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for replacements Bought this to replace some baseboards that were rusted. Does not lend itself to this type of installation as the support brackets must go behind the heater coil.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good, but how deep ? the product was very good and installed easily. I did not think to measure the depth of the product and when installing had to bend all the fins down in the front so that it would fit. wished I had measured the radiator heat dispersing fins and asked what the radiator cover was designed to handle. I have done this on 2 other radiator replacements and there was never an issue
