Customer Questions & Answers

Can the cover be changed without removing the actual plumbing?

Asked by: Silverfox
YES it can be done, and it is not too difficult with some patience. Original units are usually nailed into the studs, and it is difficult to pull the nails because of the existing plumbing and the nail heads are sometimes dimpled into the sheet metal. The trick is one I learned on This Old House. Remove all the covers and hardware from the front. Get some shims and push them between the wall and baseboard cover to make some space between the cover and wall. Get the longest metal cutting saws all blade you can find and insert it between the baseboard and wall, then cut the nails from behind the baseboard cover. If you are careful, you'll avoid damaging the wall above the baseboard, and any wall damage below the baseboard will be covered up. Be careful to cut the nail shaft and not into the sheet metal, you might have to cut into the drywall a bit to get a good cut on the nail shaft if the nail head is dimpled into the sheet metal, but again, this cut will be covered up by the new baseboard. Once you are done removing the old board, disassemble the dummy boards. The brackets are removed by squeezing the top of the bracket until the bottom pops out of the lip. Slip the new brackets behind the existing pipe, slip the new covers behind, and reinstall the brackets by squeezing the topof the bracket and pushing the bottom of the bracket back into the cover. Secure the back to the wall with drywall screws, reinstall the front cover and louver and that's it.

How many BTUs will this unit output assuming 180°F water 1 GPM flow rate?

How many BTUs will this unit output assuming 180°F water 1 GPM flow rate?
Asked by: RichK
580 BTU's per linear foot. By the way this is kind of an industry standard. Meaning if you told me you had a 100' of basboard in your home, I would multiply the 100' by the 580 and tell you you needed a boiler that put out 58000 BTU's. As another example 3/4" copper tube can only carry 45,000 BTU's, (no a bigger pump will not make a difference) So if we divide 45K by 580 we no that 75' is about the maximum footage of baseboard you can run on a 3/4" zone.

Asked by: mazy
Hello Mazy! Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This manufacturer does not make escutcheons (the round cover for pipes). For further assistance, please contact your local Home Depot store or an online representative at 800-430-3376. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

I was not able to edit that post but I wanted to additional information. I still maintain my two (2) star rating of this product. A 'Chris' responded to my post on March 6, 2017 with the appearance of being concerned and helpful. I did in fact call call the number provided (Slant Fin manufacturing) and asked to speak with 'Chris'. I was put through to customer service who informed me: 1. There is no one named 'Chris' in customer service 2. There is only a one year warranty on the product. Period. 3. ALL warranty issues relating to this product would go through Home Depot and NOT Slant Fin. For what it's worth I have attached a picture of the rust issue. Since I was unable to reach a 'Chris' at Slant Fin nor did the individual I spoke with indicate any desire in seeing the rusting issue, one might conclude the response was simply for positive marketing spin. Since I clearly indicated upfront the baseboard elements were purchased "...a few years ago...", Chris' response stating "The product is guaranteed not to rust and would certainly be under warranty." gives false hope that something could be done regarding the situation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, but they do not cover very well These are of decent quality and I would recommend them in general, but they would be much better if the front cover would extend down toward the floor a bit more. After installation, there is at least 1 1/2" between the floor and the bottom of the cover. This allows easy view from a standing position of the unfinished side of the backing and the brackets that hold the pipes and heating elements in place. These were shipped via UPS and arrived in excellent condition, however, the inside corner I ordered was not covered with a protective film and was full of scratches and scuff marks - most likely from its time in the warehouse, not from shipping.
