This question is being answered by the manufacturer. As a manufacturing supplier to the Home Depot we are not notified when questions are posted on this Q&A forum. We apologize for the delayed response.
To answer your question, our slide-out shelves are made-to-fit and designed to easily be installed to the base of your cabinets or to the existing full-size shelf in your cabinet(s)...what we refer to as bottom mounting. We provide an easy-install template and you only need a Phillips screwdriver to install.
Side mounting to the wall of your cabinet can be done...but it is significantly more challenging to do and extra steps, tools and materials are typically required that are not provided with our product, which simply "retrofits" an existing fixed shelf....converting the existing flat/fixed surface to a slide-out shelf.
If a flat surface does not exist, we recommend simply adding a fixed shelf prior to installing our slide-out (read below).
If you choose to attempt side mounting, not only will you need to be certain the rail system is level right to left, but also front to back and top to bottom (all three dimensions - i.e. the X, Y & Z axis) and they must be secured perfectly parallel.
Please see our Measuring Guide in the Info & Guides box on our product page on homedepot.com.
NOTE: You will appreciate the ease of installation if you simply install a flat shelf surface first for our slide-out to attach to vs. side mounting. Simply measure the interior wall-to-wall dimension and front to back and have at least 1/2" thick shelving material cut to fit. All Home Depot stores have melamine shelving material for sale and can cut-to-fit your measurements. Use simple steel L-brackets to secure to the walls of your cabinets at the level you desire...being certain to use screw lengths that do not go through the wall of your cabinet. Then all you have to do is use our template and install the Slide-A-Shelf made-to-fit slide-out shelf you ordered to this surface.

To answer your question, YES. Our slide-out shelves are made-to-fit the clear opening and unobstructed interior depth of your cabinets. For a solution such as this we recommend you contact a custom cabinet or furniture maker in your area. They would be able to custom order rail systems that are 36" long. Be prepared for special design and cost parameters. These must be taken into consideration.

Made-To-Fit Slide-Out Shelf, Full Extension, Poly-Finished Birch Front is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Adjustments required. 1. Guide template was not accurate. After installing with the template, the slides would not stay engaged with one another upon closing. I had to mount the slides onto the shelf, mark the screw hole locations on the cabinet, remove the entire assembly, pre-drill the screw holes and install the slides in order to get the slides to stay engaged. 2. After all this, an interference was blocking the shelf from fully closing. Close inspection revealed that one of two tab stops on the cabinet mounted slide was hitting a screw head on the shelf mounted slide. Problem was solved by bending the tab stop over to clear the screw head. This is a poor choice of screw and am totally baffled as to why this problem was not picked up in manufacturer's quality control. Obvious solution is to use a flat-head countersunk screw for this application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shelving, made to order in one week. Everything about this product and the company that makes it is commendable. The measuring instructions were meticulous and made ordering easy. Our shelves arrived one week later, which was incredibly fast. They are well made of quality Birchwood. And they fit perfectly. We will be buying more soon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pull out drawers This is the second set of drawers I've ordered as we loved the first ones so much, we reordered. A little pricey, but we felt it was worth it. I also had a call from the factory to verify something and they were so polite and helpful. Even hung up with ,"have a blessed day"!

After three years of use, the white shelf starts to look scuffed up, but not bad. Overall great product and happy I installed them. If I were to do it again I would put a liner along the bottom to prevent the scuff marks.

I bought them to use for a large pantry cabinet with four very deep shelves, which was a huge waste of space until I got these shelves. Before I could only use about 1/2 of the depth of each shelf and be able to see/reach the back items. Now I can use the entire depth and pull out the drawer as far as needed to see and reach the back items. I am easily storing double the items as before and not losing anything to the back wasteland area. They also allow me to reach and grab my pots & pans more easily as well (no scraping along the top of the shelf any more when removing). One MAJOR drawback that I missed is that these MUST be installed to existing shelves. This is not shown in any of their photos, they all are taken from an angle to hide the shelf below the drawer which is unfortunate. This info is hidden in the middle of the description bullets (really it should be a major bullet at the top or at least mentioned in the initial description). I bought these drawers thinking the side tracks would be able to attach to the sides of the pantry, but this is not an option with this product. Installing to drawers does cause a small loss of height within the cabinet of about 1/2" to 1" for each shelf or drawer, which is not much if you are only installing one or two but adds up to a bit of a loss of space when you are installing 4 as I did. I did still install them since I didn't have much choice, and they are still very functional although I had to compensate for the loss of space and a couple drawers do not have as much height as I would like. Installation was very easy with their clear installation guide, and the drawers are definitely well made. I have only had them for a month or so, but I have them loaded up with pots/pans, canned goods and other pantry items and don't feel at all concerned that the weight will be too much for them. I did take the time to stain the front edges as others suggested since this will help make it easier to keep them clean, it doesn't take long and I definitely think it is worth the short wait.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality and terrible customer service I ordered over $1000 worth of shelves from Slide-a-Shelf on December 31 and still have only received half of them almost one month later. The shelves I received had quality issues. One shelf was chipped and the other had a manufacturing defect. I have contacted the VP of Operations and the CEO and both promised to help but the problems are not resolved. I have a long trail of emails and photos that documents my experience so there's no disputing the facts. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND QUALITY I'm disappointed that Home Depot would endorse a company with such poor customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is definitely the way to go! These are good quality, sturdy shelving. Installation was relatively easy, except when you're old like me and getting down on the floor is no fun. I needed the roll-outs for that very reason and it was mission accomplished. I purchased the three-quarter slide-outs because I was concerned with the weight/stress. Three-quarters is plenty. Measuring was simple with their help. One tip however is that I recommend measuring back from the opening about half an inch. Even though my cupboard doors do not intrude into the space, there would have been a problem if I had measured to the very front of the cabinet floor. Nice design for custom shelving.
