Very happy with this bird bath. Yes, it does require direct sunshine to make the pump work. I found nice sunny spot in my backyard that keeps it running from 10am to 4pm. The birds love it. I've got a regular bird bath as well and rarely see any birds drinking or taking a bath from it. Not only does this solar one attract birds but I frequently see bees taking a drink as well. I do replace the water daily and rinse out the bowl and pump twice a week. The little filter inside the pump also needs cleaning. Love the frog design. Nice and relaxing to sit near it and listen to the water fountain.

I'm happy with the bird bath but wish that it had a back up battery so that it would work even when the sun isn't out or when it's behind a cloud. Definitely has to have direct sun. Very happy with the quality although I think it is priced a little on the high side. I was happy that it is fairly heavy so I don't have to worry about it falling over.

I haven't had a bidbath in the yard in ages and decided it was time. I found this birdbath and found it fun & whimsical. It arrived quickly and only took a few minutes to assemble. It's light enough to empty, move and clean, but hefty enough not to get blown over.
As other reviews have stated, it does need direct sunlight to run with the sprayer head, and the lack of a battery is its only detriment. I may try to figure out a way to add a battery on this fountain. If it works, I'll let you know what I did.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mom The birds like it
This was easy to put together. My husband mounted it on a post, so it wouldn't tip over in the wind (or when the neighbors cat jumped into it.) The birds love it. They ignored it for awhile, then I installed a bird feeder next to it, and now they can "wine and dine" in the same location. It must be cleaned everyday, as the filter plugs up, and then the fountain doesn't work. Also, the solar powered fountain only works in the full sun. That's okay, the birds like it for bathing and drinking regardless.

The solar fountain works as stated, when the sun is shining. Depending on which attachment you place on the pump (fountain versus bubbler) more or less sunshine is needed to move the water, some cloud cover is ok with the smaller attachment. It's a breeze to set up, the pump work well and the birds seem to like it, although they don't flock to it (could be a placement issue). Because the pump sits down in the bowl to allow for a flat bottom, you really have to tip the bird bath over to empty and clean it. It's not very heavy but it's a bit of a bother. Overall pleased with the purchase and it is as represented.

This is a lovely addition to my back deck where I have plants and bird feeders. Because this area gets sun from 10 AM through the evening, the birds have the fountain most of the day. Setting it up was SO easy, I could not believe it. The solar unit responded immediately. By the time I had gathered up the box and turned away, a Hummingbird was perched on the side and a Cardinal was awaiting its turn. The traffic has been steady even when the fountain is not operating in the early morning. The only thing I would like to change is to have the solar unit retain energy when the sun is not directly above so that th birds would have the fountain early in the morning. But, I would purchase this again and am recommending it to friends!
