I did extensive study before buying this generator and so far it meets all my expectations. I have not had the opportunity to use it in an emergency but I have tried it out by shutting off utility power. It handled all of my home's needs without any complications -- this includes simultaneous running of two propane furnaces, two refrigerators, an in-ground well water pump and a 50" plasma tv. I had my electrician run a separate line to power a trouble light near my service box so when I crank up the generator, I have immediate light where I need to make the switch from utility to generator service. I am a very happy camper at home.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by FLY1216 Good quality, Good price
Picked up at store and two guys lifted it into my truck. Was able to unpack and get set up in about 15-20 minutes. A bottle of oil was included with just the right amount to fill the engine - was able to fill crankcase without spilling a drop. I also topped off the battery with a charger, BEFORE connecting the battery terminals (per instructions). After connecting to the LP tank, the unit started cold WITHOUT choking (per LP starting instructions). I connected to the Generac Transfer Switch with a 30 amp cord having L14-30 plugs and flipped on circuits to the refrigerator, freezer and furnace. Everything worked flawlessly. Even if this unit is never used in the next 10 years, it is worth the peace of mind knowing I can keep warm, keep food from spoiling and even cook it in the microwave if we do have an extended outage. The LP option also avoids the problem of keeping a supply of fresh gasoline on-hand. In our last major outage, I had to drive 5 miles to find a station that had power and it was a 30 minute wait to get to the pumps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Mike Excellent Dual-Fuel Generator!
I purchased this generator approximately 1 year ago to power my 30'X40' barn/shop that I built to support my 40 acre farm. I was able to pick this up for $750 on one of the sales that Home Depot had, and that made this an exceptional buy.
I bought this specific model because of the dual-fuel option, and the ability to store propane for long periods of time. Gas (especially with 10% ethanol) goes bad within a couple of months, and it can cause huge issues with gumming up your carburetor, damaging your engine, etc. I also love the propane option because it's no mess! No worries about spilled fuel or gas smell. I bought two 100 lb propane tanks tanks, and this generator runs like a champ on the propane.
Set-up of the generator was pretty easy. It took me less than 30 minutes to have it up and running. Mine came with a battery, connector to keep your battery plugged into a 12 volt wall socket, oil, the wheel kit, a propane hose with regulator, and electric start. I didn't realize when I first bought this that it was electric start, and I am VERY happy with this feature. Mine starts at the first turn of the key and within 3-4 seconds, no matter how hot or cold it is outside. I keep the generator inside and under cover when not in use, and I change the oil every 40 hours (which is about once a week). I use Mobile 1 synthetic oil, but you can fun whatever oil you prefer. I prefer Mobile 1 because the generator has no filter, and I just feel safer using the synthetic oil over other brands.
Start-up is easy. For me, with the propane, I just hook up the supplied hose to the propane tank, pull out the choke, turn the key for 3-4 seconds, and the generator starts. I push in the choke right after it starts and it runs like a champ.
It also is very fuel efficient on the propane. During the summer, I run my generator most of the day to keep my 12'X30' shop air conditioned and cool. The generator barely even blinks when I run the air, even with all of the interior, exterior and flood lights. I have run power tools and other electronics (including my microwave) with the air on and it still doesn't bog down. I am VERY, VERY happy with the performance of this engine. I am running the generator about 40 hours a week, and I can get 2-3 weeks out of a 100 lb tank of propane on average (about 16-18 hours per 20 lb tank if you want the conversion for the smaller tanks). Obviously, if I am using heavy load it will be less than that, and I have gotten better than that in the winter time with no AC to run.
Changing the oil is pretty easy. There is an oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine, and I just loosen the plug, start the engine and warm it up for a minute or 2, remove the plug all the way, drain all the oil out (while warm) into a drain pan, tilt it slightly towards the drain plug and let it sit for 15 minutes to make sure everything is out, replace and lightly tighten the plug, and then refill with a fresh quart of Mobil 1. Again, there is no oil filter with this type of generator. It is VERY important you change the oil every 40 hours to make sure you get any wearing material, shavings, and sludge out of the engine.
As I said, I have had this for 1 year now and have run it in every type of weather, including snow, rain, 90+ degree heat, etc. I have had ZERO issues with this generator. It starts every time, it has never shut off or over-heated, and it runs everything I need it to run to support my barn/shop.
I would buy this generator again, and I am actually thinking of purchasing a 2nd one as a back-up generator for my home. I highly recommend this generator if you want the dual-fuel option, want something easy to maintain, and a generator that will handle most anything you throw at it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by apete Best Bang for the Buck!
This review is valid as of 1/9/2014. The reason that I mention that is from the past reviews.
For one, the battery is listed as optional, but it did come with the battery.
Several mentioned getting a trickle charger, but it came with a short cable that connects to the battery and plugs into the 12V charging outlet.
It comes without oil in the engine (pretty much standard), but it comes with a quart of oil.
The wheel kit is VERY easy to install, and from then on, easy to move around.
Intended to run mostly on propane . . . easy start, quiet running.
Would never run on gasoline except in an absolute emergency.
Paid $749.00 from Home Depot on sale, best bang for the buck!
Engine is Chinese made by Winling Jennfeng Industry Inc. Raised a few eyebrows, but impressed with the engine.
Excellent manual and parts list . . . can find any part of the generator or the engine when the need arises.
Would I recommend this generator . . . you bet! Buy it if you can get it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by rwhNH nice generator with dual fuel capabilities
After quite a bit of shopping around, I zeroed in on this portable generator to save me from future (and likely) power outages. Power outages seem to be a way of life here in NH; sometimes for hours, and other times days. Finally decided enough was enough.
This generator is a good match for my power needs to run most things in the house (except the AC and hot tub) through a 30A generator outdoor receptical to feed the entire electrical panel through breaker/interlock at the panel. Tried it out with various loads in combination including the microwave, fridge, chest freezer, water pump, and numerous lights. It managed to meet the power demand just fine.
Ran on both propane and gasoline to do a full checkout. Easy to start and seemed to run very smoothly on either fuel. Plan to eventually extend a propane line from the tank feeding the house to enable me to attach to the big supply instead of the 20 lb bottles.
Easy to assemble including attachment of the propane hose. Much nicer than another gas/propane unit that I bought earlier from HD and returned. The personnel at Smarter Tools were also helpful prior to my purchase in answering questions as I shopped various models.
