Product Overview

Don't be without power. The Smarter Tools GP-9500EB has a powerful 420cc engine and is perfect size in case you need some temporary power in an emergency situation or for every day usage at the construction site or other off-grid location. This workhorse is packed with features usually found on more expensive units such as digital hour/Volt/htz meter, electric start with 12-Volt 17AH battery, and no-flat tires that keep you rolling even around surfaces with sharp objects like a construction site. With four standard outlets, a 120V 30A twist-lock, a 120/240-Volt 30A twist-lock, and a 12-Volt DC plug, you will have plenty of power to work with. The generator is backed by a 2 year limited warranty and is EPA and CARB emissions approved (50 States).

How do I charge the battery?

How do I charge the battery once I purchased this generator.???? Does it come with a charging plug/cord.??
Asked by: Dimitri
It charges when you run it so there are two options; use the pull start first and run it for a while or use a regular AC charger before you hook it up to use electric start.

does the gasoline need to be emptied after use?

Asked by: annie
No,, unless you leave it in the tank for a year or more. I have a smaller generator (poor quality Duromax) Just to be sure I'm prepared I run it 10-15 min. every month. It give you confidence and assures your gas is always fresh. If you store fuel in plastic cans for a long period I suggest treating it with a restore treatment that keeps it fresh.

How much gas does it hold and how long will it run on a full tank?

Asked by: RonK
The generator tank holds 7 gallons. Run time will vary depending on appliance load. The company has rated it at 10 hours at 50% load which would be approximately 31 amps.

Picked up this Generator at my local Home Depot, (It took almost a month to get there). Opened up the box and installed the oil, handles, wheels, and fueled it up. Started to hook up the battery but noticed there was no hardware to connect the cables to the battery. Anyway, Long story short, the frame was bent in pretty hard and whatever crunched it also cracked the battery, causing battery acid to leak out , the battery box area was severely corroded and full of dried corrosive powder and worse yet it leaked onto and into the generator itself. Also the unit seemed to have a lot of sawdust (?) on it. Still I ordered another

When unboxing you start with it upside down in order to attach the wheels so that is how I noticed the damage. I took some pictures of the damage and continued to set it up. It ran as expected and then I called Smarter Tools and got right through to their support. I explained my concern over possibly getting one that had been returned. Chris Guckian, the support person, told me to send him the pictures and he would look into it. After not hearing anything for a few days I emailed him and also tried to reach him at their toll free number. Was never able to speak to anyone at Smarter Tools again. After three weeks I went to Home Depot, explained my dilemma and they accepted my return. Home Depot was great and agreed with me that the Smarter Tools lack of support issue was very import. I'm a long time Home Depot customer and will continue for years to come.

The frame was bent and the battery was cracked and the acid had drained into the generator itself, acid damage and corrosion was evident. Generator also seemed to have some type of sawdust all over it. Obviously, some major damage had occurred. In all fairness I returned it to store and ordered another. Hope its OK, It takes 2 weeks to arrive. Seems like a nice generator and I'm hoping the condition that I received the Gen in was just a fluke, but I doubt it. Oh, and the damage was not reflected on the box, which leads me to believe that someone had boxed and shipped the gen knowing it was damaged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generator The generator arrived at a Home Depot location, box was damaged but no damage to the generator itself. It assembled quickly and easily. Took it out over Thanksgiving weekend and ran it about 6 hours every day. Starts right up very easily. Ran smoothly with no problems. The only issue I had was how loud it is. It is pretty loud considering how big it is. I should have realized that when buying this product but as far as power goes, it's strong and reliable. So, for running for 4 days at about 30 hours initial run, I would recommend this product but beware of how loud it is.

I purchased this generator because it was the cheapest price for the stated wattage. Assembly was easy and the unit started immediately. I have not had to use it during an actual outage, but since my house is wired for a generator, I went ahead and tested it. It ran everything I needed to run, including a space heater, blow dryer, microwave and furnace all at the same time along with my two refrigerators, two freezers and a wine cooler. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I only ran it 30 minutes and can't vouch to it's durability.

Wheel brackets collapsed when I put it down on the floor, will have to reinforce, there is no axel, just bolts for axels. Full axel would be nice considering the 200# wt. Digital meter goes blank as soon as you plug in a load, unplug and it comes back! Meter only shows volts, freq., and hrs. No Amps, Watts, Kwhs. Will have to supply my own meters so I can effectively balance the load.

Electric start is definitely nice as well as the hard wheels (no flats). Only reason for four stars is that the outer shell and front legs cannot take much abuse. We definitely put our generators through the ringer though. It stays in the back of the work truck and gets tools tossed on top quite a bit. I would recommend this generator if you are looking for an affordable higher wattage generator.
