How do you remove this connector from a junction box without destroying it?

Asked by: Grumpy114
I had to once and used a small flat head screw driver to put in the metal wings and spun the connector to get the one in the back.

How do I uncouple an installed connector?

I want to replace the light fixture to which a cable is connected. How do I get the connector out of the old fixture and off the flex electric cable?
Asked by: Ronald
The fastest way to remove the connector from the knockout is to pry off the steel spring band from the inside. This will destroy the connector but should not damage the wire or your fixture if done with a little care. To pry off the band, locate and insert a flat head screw driver into the seam that runs parallel to the connector body and twist one edge of the spring band out past the lip of the connector body. Once it is out far enough, use pliers to grip and pull it away from the knockout toward the center of the wire box. To remove the connector from the cable simply unscrew it from the spiral metal sheath and slide if off the wires. The harder way is to depress all the the tabs around the body that hold it in the knockout at the same time. It can be done with patiences, but it's a bit of a pain and still may damage the connector. Removing the connector from the cable is the same as the method above.

Are these re usable?

Asked by: teddy
Possibly, depending on how damaged it was when you removed it. I would just use new ones though, a lot of sharp metal in these.

They create a solid box connection and I like they have a rubber bushing in them as well. The only pain with these is if you need to pull the wire out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't listen to richy. He doesn't know what he's doing These are intended only to be used with 3/8 MC Cable. The retention tabs on the inside engage the swells on the Mc and will NOT harm or strip your conductors. Use it for what it was intended and you will have no problem.

Give your work a more professional finished look and much faster than screw clamp type connectors. Holds solid and fast. Best for uses with sheet metal boxes and enclosures. The only negative is that it is almost impossible to remove it from the knockout once it's inserted all the way without damaging the connector. So I don't recommend it for temporary installations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for MC cable These connectors snap onto MC cable (in my case 3/8" trade size 12-2) and push into a 1/2" knockout on a junction box. They reliably hold the cable and are easy and quick to use. Each connector includes a plastic insulator to protect conductors passing through the connector. The package indicates it can be used with 0.4" to 0.6" diameter cable. I highly recommend this for working with small diameter, metal-clad cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick & Easy I have used this product for a couple of years now. Very easy to use and I have never had a problem with them damaging the wire. You can also untwist the mc from the connector if you need to. This is the only way to go in my opinion.
