Yes, there is a lever for deflection and a crank for direction. There is also a cool feature that just by holding the gear lever the auger lever stays engaged to allow easy adjustments of the chute.

I love this feature. There is a lever on the left side of the operator panel that will allow you to vary the discharge angle from nearly straight horizontal to a 45 degree angle upwards for maximum distance. When they advertise the unit will throw snow 40 feet, believe it. The auger and drive controls can be locked into a single handed mode (right hand) freeing up your left hand to operate the discharge controls on the fly. This is a great feature. Read Less

I assume you meant to say deflector, as in the part that determines how far/high the snow gets thrown. If so, yes it is and it's one of the best features on this blower in my opinion!

They are assembled in the US, but the engine (LCT) is made in china.
Other snow thrower (and other power equipment) manufacturers use LCT engines such as Power Smart and Poulan.
This is an Ariens snow thrower with the difference being an LCT engine instead of Briggs and Stratton.

Separate crank case for the oil so being a 4 stroke engine just gasoline-I recomend no ethenol at all and I prefer to stick with premium. This unit is extremely efficient and sips fuel compared to other snow blowers I have owned.

Only 2-cycle engines need to have oil mixed with the gasoline. Ariens Company has ony one current model with a 2-cycle engine. It is the 938000 Series single-stage.
Please refer to the Engine Owner's Manual for the correct fuel. If you do not have engine manual please go to the engine manufacturers website and you may download a manual.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 121 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little snow thrower I bought this snow blower in Jan of 2015 so I have an upstate NY winter on it blowing my 175' driveway. The motor is more than strong enough to keep throwing a foot of snow at a normal walking speed. A whole lot more than that and you'll have to stop and let the machine clear it's self of snow every few feet. The only issue I've had is the rubber line that runs between the primer and fuel system dry rotted and cracked. Shouldn't have had to replace this after only a year and it being garage stored when not be8ng used but it was under $5 to fix and quite simple. She's running fine now and just waiting for the snow to fall. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2016 Blizzard Got the 28" snow blower in October. Couldn't wait to use it and I got my chance with with a 38" snowfall. It performed flawlessly. Did 13 driveways in addition to my own in 2 days. February 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love my Snow Tec! Although my new Snow Tec did not go to the nearest Ariens Dealer for final check and assembly as advertised it only took me about an hour to do the job myself. I was impressed with the free delivery of my snow thrower, the driver backed up all the way to my garage, 125 feet from the road, and put it right inside my garage for me. The snow Thrower was easy to assemble and the product was a great value, I feel like I can now face another Michigan winter. August 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by amazing machine for the money!! bought this snowblower in november to replace an old 24" mtd that was probably as old as i am, all i have to say is WOW!! this machine has impressed me more every time i use it. we just had about 30" of snow dumped on us in the last 2 days and it ate thru everything even the heavy stuff at the bottom of the driveway that the plow always piles up. the remote chute controls are awesome and work flawless they dont bind at all like some other blowers, the only thing i would change about this machine would be to put some meatier tires on it, they do tend to slip a bit but not enough to cause an issue for me. everything about this machine feels sturdy and well made, right down to how smooth the controls operate this sno tek gets 2 thumbs up from me. February 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good Snow Blower; Does a good job. This is a very good snow blower for an economy model. I compared all of the similar priced units in my area and there was no comparison. It is similar to Ariens better top model but not quite equal; but great for the money. I am 66 and my drive is uphill and this walked right up the hill without chains. The locking drive wheel feature really helps with turning. Throws snow a long way and distance as well as direction is adjustable from operating position. March 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job well Not too easy to assemble outdoors at 10° F but that's where it has to live under a tarp by the kitchen door. Cleared a walkway and a 300' driveway three times so far with no problems. Tip: shut the fuel off when you're done and let it run out of fuel before shutting it off February 26, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product not as advertised This product is not as advertised, the electric start does not work. Disappointed in the poor instructions and Home Depot's not responding to my previous comments. I will not purchase another product from any HD supplier that is only marginally gurarnteed. George Toly QA Manager October 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy! Great product. The only thing I would recommend to people is that after you get it delivered to you or you get it home, just check all the nuts and bolts to make sure they are snug. Found a couple that were lose and would have come apart had I not checked. Anyway this machine (roughly 12 horse) plows through like a beast. March 8, 2013
