Answer:
Hello shrof,
The SJ620 is not self-propelled. The drive mechanism is an auger-assisted push, which means that the rotation of the auger in contact with the snow will aid in the forward motion of the snow thrower when it is pushed.
Hope this helps!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall Happy Based on my limited use so far, I am happy with this product. The day after receiving this we got 13 inches of snow. I didn't expect it to clear anything because of other reviews and because it is really just a lightweight blower. I decided to try it anyway. I was surprised. Obviously it did not clear all the way to pavement but it did clear a significant amount of snow. It is easy to use and the cord did not really present a problem for me. I really throws snow a great distance. I think if I had gone over driveway a second time, might have gotten closer to pavement, but too cold! This blower serves my purposes. We are more likely to get 5-6 inches versus 13, so I expect it to do a good job. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This snow blower works better than I expected This snow blower was affordably priced and has plenty of power to move the snow. I was skeptical that an electric snow blower would be powerful enough to do the job but I was pleasantly surprised. No oil, no gas just plug in and go! March 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little machine Purchased this in January 2014 and have used it about 6 or 7 times so far in all types of snow. We have a blacktop driveway long enough for 2 cars and a small walk so the size of the blower is good for what we need. The highest the snow has been was about 9 inches. My husband did experience some clogging in the shoot with very wet snow but once he cleared it there was no problem. The cord is cumbersome but that is expected with electric equipment of this type. Overall, this is a great little machine.. It even clears the snow down to the pavement. Definitely worth the money. So happy I purchased it. February 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little machine...... I bought this immediately after spending over 2 hours shoveling heavy, wet snow. I read the other reviews that said this snowblower is only good for light snow, but the price was right so I thought I'd try it out myself. I have used it several times without any issues, even with really wet snow. It will bog down a bit sometimes, but just backing up a little clears it right out so you can keep going. I also have to bring this up and down steps and it's light enough to make that pretty easy to do. The only problem I have had is just dealing with the extenstion cord getting in the way, but that's to be expected. February 5, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not recommended i received this unit just before the snow hit...now thru three snow storms, the last about 10 inches. the first time not problem, tho i left plastic parts from the 'scoop' everywhere. second time didn't work as well and the third time the charm. the motor overheated and quit. if it let it cool off, it would work for a short time then no more. thankfully hd great about the return. this unit clogged with wet snow...very frustrating...so looking for something else. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very light weight and very easy to operate I am a 67 year old woman, with a very bad back. I bought this based on the reviews from Home Depot and Amazon. I have used this 3 times so far this season. With about 5 in. of light fluffy snow each time. Cleaning 2 single lane driveways that flar out to two lane. About 100 ft. long each one. Including on the road infront of the mail boxes with snow drifts about 7 inches. My son in law used it once for me and said it far exceeded his expetations. I am keeping it in the house. I also purchased from Home Depot a tall, wheeled hose reel to roll up the 150 ft. of heavy duty extension cords on and it works very well. The only probem that I am having with the snow thrower is keeping the extension cord plugged into it. December 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This snow blower does a very good job for what it's designed for. I bought this unit to use to clear up the snow around my vechicals after the driveway was plowed. The plow always leaves quite a bit of snow around and behind my car and truck so I thought a light weight easy to use unit would do the trick. It does a great job doing this.I live in cental NY and get a lot of snow including lake effect snow. I would not expect this blower to be able to handle huge amounts of snow, but it does a fine job of moving several inches of accumulation. I have it connected to a 100 foot 12 guage extension cord and it works fine. December 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good! We live in the northern most part of Worcester County, MA. We bought this just as the Polar Vortex with snow hit and so far it did great job...albeit the snow was light and fluffy but there was some of the older icier snow under it and it took care of that also. That was the noisiest part of using it, hitting the icy snow, it's really not that loud, nothing like the gas ones. If I can, I will update this if/when we get a wetter heavier snow. It did not bog down with that light snow. It's really easy to use and to start. We keep it in the cellar and will just carry it (45 lbs) up the stairs and out. The free cord that came with it is bright yellow, easy to see and saved us $50.00 to boot. Would I buy another, as of now I say, yes I would, but I do not know how it will act in heavier wet snow.
