I'm thinking about getting this to clear snow from the walkways at my apartment building. I manage the complex and have a downstairs apartment. Hopefully this isn't too heavy for me to carry up and down the stairs by myself all winter!

Minimum Extenstion Cord Gauge

I see the specs on this Snow Joe Electric snow thrower call for a 12-3 gauge extension cord. You advertise a 16 gauge extension cord as a recommended add-on purchase. Don't you think you should change that to 12 gauge? And I'd highly recommend a cold-weather extension cord---- much easier to handle when clearing snow and it will not crack in below-freezing weather like regular outdoor extension cords. It's an additional expense buyers should know before purchasing. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-100-ft-12-3-50-Cold-Weather-Extension-Cord-748-123100HC4/205649548

Answer:
10 gauge at 100 foot would be safer for starting load. 12 gauge is a lot easier to handle but will not be good for heavy loadig of the machine. I may have cfaused my machine to fail with a 12 gauge cord.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 89 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does well with a dry snow Not as strong as a gas blower but it will get the job done.. Well worth the price . It will clog with slush. but does well with dry snow. February 10, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by light duty only Compared to hand shoveling it is a draw. By the time you get this machine out and the 100 foot cord laid out and hooked up you could have half the job done by hand. It vibrates and sheds parts. After about 5 times of use ( about 15 hours total time it stalled out and will no longer operate. Seems to seize up after about a minute of running. After removing power and trying to troubleshoot I could find nothing wrong. Blades turn easily, belt seems ok, motor shaft turns easily. When power is applied it just gives a loud hum and stalls out.Have not taken the trouble to arrange for a repair or return it, just hung it in storage and make do hand shoveling. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful Little Machine The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I had this little snowblower put together in no time at all. I didn't have to wait long to try it out. Within a few days, we had about an 8-inch snowfall. The instructions say that the snowblower can handle up to 10 inches of light snow - not the wet, heavy stuff. Well, this thing worked like a champ. It took a little bit of time for me to get the hang of it, as I'd never used one of these before. I got alot of snow in my face at first, but the learning curve was quite short (duh!) Don't get me wrong - it was still a tough job - but this "lady-like" snowblower handled it great. I would highly recommend this snowblower to anyone. February 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Snow Blower This Snow Joe snow blower is a great corded blower for the house where the size of the driveway can be reached with an extension cord. It clears an 18 in wide path with ease.It has a light for the night blowing. Using a power blower is a good back saver with all the snow we get in the northeast. The assembly is very easy. Just straighten up the handle and tighten the knobs. December 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic This is our 1st snow blower and it worked great. Due to a heart condition I have weight limitations and this was light enough to be very easy to handle. We used it 3 times and it worked great each time. It threw the snow as far as advertised and made clean up a lot easier and faster. March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Speehless I live in Fairbanks Alaska. This is my first winter here and making a big adjustment. We had our first snow fall last week and decided to get out an shovel the snow. Needless to say that was my first and last time doing that. I decided to purchase a snow blower for the next snow fall. No more back pain for me. I purchased this product off line for $239.00 and it was the best thing I could've done. It cleared my driveway and side walk with ease. Did I mention it took care of the slush too? It is an electric snow blower and the cord was a bit annoying at times but worked like a charm. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a snow blower with great quality at such a low price. Now I'm ready for winter. October 29, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This will be an eaiser winter This snow blower is so light, I lifted it out of the box myself. The machine was really so easy to put together. Easy to follow directions, including pictures. The parts to put it together are already on the machine, just follow the instructions and tighten the bolts needed. I put this machine together myself in less then 3 minutes. I started it right up with no problem. The sound of the machine will be easy to work with, not to load. Easy lever to control which way you want the snow to blow. It comes with a holder to keep your extension cord up off the ground and connected. Strong 13.5 amp motor will do the job of any driveway or walkway. The machine can move up to 650 pounds of snow per minute. Cuts 18" wide by 10" deep cut in the snow. The adjustable discharge chute rotates a complete 180 degrees. 20 w halogen headlight will come in handy on dark mornings. A low price point for a quality product. It is well made and should hold up for many winters. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to make this winter a little easier. October 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Decent blower for small size driveways, deck and patios Out of the box, the blower took about 5 minutes to assemble with no tools required. I just had to tighten four wing nuts to assemble the handle and then attached the chute direction controller. This blower will not be cleaning my driveway since I already have a heavy duty gas blower but I could never use my gas blower on my 400 square foot deck and that’s where this unit comes very handy. Its light weight and extremely easy to maneuver. Majority of the material is plastic and that in fact works out great for me as it will not be scratching the stain of my deck. Auger is made of metal and so is the bottom handle frame. Operation is very straight forward, simply plug the power cable and you are rolling. I would strongly recommend using the power cord that is graded for outdoor use. The features I like the most are the built in 20 watt light and the chute direction control. Only the angle of the chute requires manual adjustment. I am very happy that I do not have to shovel the snow from my deck anymore. It’s a decent blower for small size driveways, deck and patios and I am all for it. November 2, 2014
