I'm thinking about getting this to clear snow from the walkways at my apartment building. I manage the complex and have a downstairs apartment. Hopefully this isn't too heavy for me to carry up and down the stairs by myself all winter!

Minimum Extenstion Cord Gauge

I see the specs on this Snow Joe Electric snow thrower call for a 12-3 gauge extension cord. You advertise a 16 gauge extension cord as a recommended add-on purchase. Don't you think you should change that to 12 gauge? And I'd highly recommend a cold-weather extension cord---- much easier to handle when clearing snow and it will not crack in below-freezing weather like regular outdoor extension cords. It's an additional expense buyers should know before purchasing. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-100-ft-12-3-50-Cold-Weather-Extension-Cord-748-123100HC4/205649548

Answer:
10 gauge at 100 foot would be safer for starting load. 12 gauge is a lot easier to handle but will not be good for heavy loadig of the machine. I may have cfaused my machine to fail with a 12 gauge cord.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does well with a dry snow Not as strong as a gas blower but it will get the job done.. Well worth the price . It will clog with slush. but does well with dry snow. February 10, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by light duty only Compared to hand shoveling it is a draw. By the time you get this machine out and the 100 foot cord laid out and hooked up you could have half the job done by hand. It vibrates and sheds parts. After about 5 times of use ( about 15 hours total time it stalled out and will no longer operate. Seems to seize up after about a minute of running. After removing power and trying to troubleshoot I could find nothing wrong. Blades turn easily, belt seems ok, motor shaft turns easily. When power is applied it just gives a loud hum and stalls out.Have not taken the trouble to arrange for a repair or return it, just hung it in storage and make do hand shoveling. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful Little Machine The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I had this little snowblower put together in no time at all. I didn't have to wait long to try it out. Within a few days, we had about an 8-inch snowfall. The instructions say that the snowblower can handle up to 10 inches of light snow - not the wet, heavy stuff. Well, this thing worked like a champ. It took a little bit of time for me to get the hang of it, as I'd never used one of these before. I got alot of snow in my face at first, but the learning curve was quite short (duh!) Don't get me wrong - it was still a tough job - but this "lady-like" snowblower handled it great. I would highly recommend this snowblower to anyone. February 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic This is our 1st snow blower and it worked great. Due to a heart condition I have weight limitations and this was light enough to be very easy to handle. We used it 3 times and it worked great each time. It threw the snow as far as advertised and made clean up a lot easier and faster. March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Snow Blower This Snow Joe snow blower is a great corded blower for the house where the size of the driveway can be reached with an extension cord. It clears an 18 in wide path with ease.It has a light for the night blowing. Using a power blower is a good back saver with all the snow we get in the northeast. The assembly is very easy. Just straighten up the handle and tighten the knobs. December 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best for its purpose I bought this after the recent snow storm in Northern Virginia. By the time it was delivered the snow had melted and refrozen (2 plus feet), it doesn't work well in this situation. Use it when there is less than 8" of fresh snow and you'll have no issues. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great little work-horse I am a senior and a widow, so ease-of-use is extremely important to me. This little snowblower is perfect! I was able to assemble the machine in a few minutes and it worked very well. Having to watch out for the cord is a small price to pay for push-button starting and not having to deal with gas cans. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Should have bought one of these a long time ago! I bought this because my husband works a lot and I often am stuck shoveling our loooong driveway by myself. This wonderful machine came right out of the box and was basically ready to use. I will admit the extension cords do get in the way but I am not comfortable with having to put gas in the gas powered models. Clearing the driveway was quick and easy. No back and neck aches. No need for Ibuprofen. Love it, love it, love it. I have only had to clear two snows and they were fluffy snows but it worked great. I will not endure another winter without one of these babies!!
