Hi Red45,
Yes, there's a safety button located on the outside of the base, where the switch attaches to the handle. Before pulling the lever to turn on the Snow Blower, you must press that button before pulling the start lever.
Here is the address to the Operator's Manual: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/ad/ad598dfe-38bc-4435-9c4d-2aece04cb09c.pdf

Hi TrapezeArtist.
Thank you for your great question.
Whenever you are using electric power equipment, that will be more than 25 feet from the source of power, i.e. the plug, you will want to use at least, a 14 gauge electrical cord.
When you are using equipment that is pulling a heavier load thru the cord such as you 15 amp show blower will be, you will want the bigger cord to be able to carry the power easily from the source to the piece of power equipment.
The smaller 16 gauge cord will have too much of a restriction for the heavier 15 amp unit. If under too much of a load, the smaller 16 gauge cord could actually get very hot under a heavy load.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This Blower does a swell job Easy and quick assembly. Strong motor, really throws snow far. Clears an adequate swath quickly. Lightweight and easy to handle. So far we have only used this on relatively light snow and it works very well. We purchased for clearing paths in the snow in our yard for our dog, Although advertised for use on pavement, where it works very well, we found it works well over flat grassy surfaces as well. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well but understand it's limitations Works well for intended use. It's not for areas where you average 30 feet of snow a year or get more than 12" in a single fall. Will not move wet, heavy snow well - wet snow will clog the discharge chute often. Doesn't sling slush. What it does do well is move 3-5 inches of snow off your walkways or driveway. I have a 100' paved driveway. Used to take 3 hours to shovel 4" of snow. This machine will throw the snow off the entire drive in less than 30 minutes. Start in middle, walk length of drive, turn around, rotate chute, walk down drive again. If you have a kid to manage the cord it make it even easier. As fast as it is, even with a big snow fall, it's nothing to go out every 5" of buildup and clear it. Well worth the couple hundred dollars not to blow up your back. Don't even have to worry if it will start next season or if you have gasoline or not. February 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value Just got to use this for the first time, on a light fluffy snow of about 4". Easy to use, and no issues with this light of a snowfall. But one thing I noticed that I might be willing to upgrade to a higher model in the future.... Adjusting the throw height is needed more often than I expected when I clear one side of the house. On this model that's a manual adjustment, unlike the accessible handcrank to turn the thrower left and right. Works well for the cost, and held up when I hit some small stones, branches, and even hit a brick with no damage to the blades. Good product. February 17, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not built with Manitoba winters in mind The first time I used it was when there was 5 cm / 2in wet snow. That day was windy and since it doesn't come with any type of shield, I kept getting hit with the blowing snow. With the wet snow, it could only shoot just a little over one meter/ 4 or 5 feet. It took as much time using the snow joe as it would with a shovel. I have a small yard and driveway and the battery ran out before I finished the job. It needed to be recharged. On the plus side, the machine was very quiet, easy to handle and my back felt great. December 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well Purchased this snow blower this year and have used it twice. First snow, about 8", was a breeze, no issues at all. I have a rock drive and parking area and the unit works well on a rock surface, just need to keep the front from digging into the rock. Second snow, close to 12", was wetter but the snow thrower worked well, just took more time. Sometimes in the wet snow ice/snow will stick to the plastic wheel and wedge against the body of the thrower. Not a major issue and an easy to remove from the wheel. March 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by STOPPED WORKING AFTER THREE USES! I read reviews and thought this one was the best for me. I even ordered the PowerJoe chord from the SnoeJoe website. Chord works great, the blower died after three uses with 2 to 6 inches of snow. I returned it for store credit and will get something else. Even though the warranty is good I don't want this to happen again. Not worth the risk to me. February 2, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of junk Under 6 inches of powder snow, after 2! Uses the motor died, February 22, 2015
