Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not for Alberta snow!! Bought this yesterday after about an 8 inch powdery snowfall and it couldn't do the job. It kept stopping in the deeper snow, so we tried it in the areas we had already shoveled earlier that had about half the height of snow...did the same thing. We would have to pull back out of the snow, restart, and try again, then it would stop....again!! This is too weak for a real snowfall. Also, there is no way this machine throws snow anymore than a few feet. Very disappointed after reading all the glowing reviews, don't be fooled this isn't for an Alberta snow!! Maybe for a small snow on your walkway, but for a double garage pad with snow over a couple of way. Returning it today :( November 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light weight but powerful little machine - No need for an oil change or tune-ups!! I love this snow blower, it starts quickly and the battery lasts for a long time. I was able to do my entire two car driveway, walkway, and sidewalk with one charge and still had about 30% power remaining. The battery has a button that lets you check how much power you have left. I don’t know if it could handle more than 4 inches, but I filmed the hardest part to clear, which was the apron of my driveway after the street plow dumped a bunch of snow and it handled it well. That is the part I always hated the most to clear with a shovel and this little machine did it for me. It is super light, very quiet, and it takes very little room in my garage. It has a light for clearing snow at night, which I did because this machine is so quiet that I didn’t have to worry about my neighbors. I can easily lift and store it in my basement when snow season is over because of its weight. You can easily rotate the chute with a button conveniently located near the handle and it throws snow up to 20 feet. I have another electric snow blower but it’s not cordless and sometimes I felt it was easier to just shovel than have to deal with the long cord all over the place. It’s worth the extra money to get a cordless blower. I hope it lasts a long time because I love this little machine. December 31, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Surprisingly Powerful Blower, Long Lasting Battery, Lightweight Like many people, I see a cordless snowblower and I think, does this thing really work? Does the battery last? Will it really clear snow well? The answer is a resounding YES to all those questions and more. SnowJoe got it right with this Ion18SB single stage cordless snowblower. It's light, it's powerful and has excellent features. Straight out of the box it takes mere minutes to assemble. Unwrap it, attach the handle with two bolts, adjust the upper handle to meet your specific height (handle can be readjusted and locked into position in dozens of angles to fit all users) and attach the chute deflector with another two screws. That's all there is to assembly. The rest is done for you at the factory. While assembling the blower, take the battery pack and put it on the included charger. Charging will take anywhere from 60 minutes to three hours, depending on how drained it is. This seems like a long time, but it's a very large 40 volt battery back with a huge 4AH capacity. The charger is worry free, it will take care of the battery and let you know when the charge cycle is done by lighting both green lights. The battery itself has a handy capacity gauge built into it, letting you know how much life it has left with the press of a button. Once charged, snap the battery into the clever battery holder in between the handles. It has a nice thick plastic cover with a clear cover to keep the snow/moisture off it while using it. The battery snaplocks into place with a tab built into the battery. It cannot come loose or disconnected once in place. Inside this cover is also the safety key. A large plastic key that must be snapped into place to run the blower. This is a nice feature if you have curious kids around that may get hurt if they try to use it without you around. To operate the blower, press the arming button on the right side of the control panel, then pull back on the safety lever. This lever works the same way a lawnmower does. As long as it's held the blower will run, let go and it stops instantly. On the control panel above the arming button is my most favorite feature. A large toggle switch to control the electric chute. Yup, this blower has an electric chute control! Flip the toggle left or right and the chute spins side to side for you. Incredibly fun and handy! Chute discharge height is controlled by moving the top of the discharge chute manually. We're not done with features yet. The handle also holds a three bulb LED light for illuminating the blower and pavement and for helping cars to see you if you blow snow near a road. It is as bright as if not brighter than most LED flashlights and can be turned on and off at will. It's even brighter than the light on my large snowblower. The large rear wheels are set back in a way that taking this up and down stairs is a breeze. They also built in a large thick carry handle to aid in placing this in a trunk or back or a truck. The blower itself is made from mostly plastic, the handles are metal, the paddle axle is metal and the paddles themselves are fiber reinforced rubber. While plastic may not seem all that durable, this plastic is more of a rubberized material. It is strong, flexible and can handle the cold without cracking. All cables used for power are thick and covered with a durable outer covering. Nothing gets in the way. SNOW REMOVAL: On to the real reason we are here. Does it do a good job of removing snow and does the battery last? Yes. I am very impressed with how this little blower works. It exceeded my expectations in all cases. So far I've used it in snows from 2 inches to six inches. We've been getting snow nearly every day this year. It has grabbed and thrown any snow I put in front of it. The battery pack lasts and lasts. I am able to clear my entire city sidewalk (100 feet long, 4 feet wide), my driveway and approach (20 feet wide, 40 feet long) the sidewalks to my house, garage AND the deck on one battery. I couldn't believe it lasts that long, but it did. When I'm done the battery is on the lowest light, so it takes about three hours to charge. The scraper blade on the bottom of the blower goes right down the the concrete. The only thing it couldn't clear was what the plow left behind. It bogged down and would stall the motor in the really extra thick stuff, which I expected. I use the big blower or a shovel for that hard packed ice and snow. I checked on parts and both the rubber paddle blades and the lower scraper blade are replaceable and available for purchase. The battery is also available separately if you have a large area and want a spare. I honestly did not expect much from this small machine. I thought it would be great for the deck and small sidewalks, but I was really wrong about it. I totally underestimated it's ability. It has tackled all that I've put in front of it and I can't talk about the power and run time of this machine enough. Complimented with a two year warranty this should be a dependable snow blower for years. I have been using this small machine much more than my large gas blower since I've gotten it. It's my new favorite snow removal tool. January 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Incredible Machine !! Great Value !! Sturdy !! I was a little skeptical when the package arrived, It was about a 5 minute assembly and took a little less than 2 hours to fully charge the battery. The hardest part was waiting for it to snow. Snow finally came, The machine is incredible.... There are many plusses and one flaw which can be easily corrected. Run time was about 45 minutes, I had plenty of time to do my driveway which is 2 cars wide and 2 cars deep. The rubber blade cleans close to the ground leaving no snow for ice to build up on. It also cleans my Paver sidewald well, which is almost impossible to do with a shovel because it keeps getting caught on the pavers. This did it great and clean. Its QUIET !!! incredibly quiet, Anytime I can cut irritating noise out of my life is a plus. Someone can walk beside you and you can still have a conversation at normal voice levels. Its Powerful, It threw the snow over the full length of a car, as far as 25 feet. I used it again 2 days ago, we had a 9 inch snowstorm and the unit had plenty of power and duration to clean the entire driveway. Also comes with a great LED headlight that provides plenty of light. And the handle folds for easy storage. Heres the only minus about it, The snow discharge chute doesnt stay locked into place. After I used it again I replaced the attachments they had with nylon wing nuts and bolts. In Summary: This unit is Incredible, Has plenty of power, Will easily remove the snow,(including where the town plow closed your driveway) and is a quality built machine that looks like it will last forever..... Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does a satisfactory job if your expectations are properly adjusted. For starters, if you need to throw snow high, far and furious, then this is not the machine for you. That said, for typical jobs of up to 10 inches of normal dry snow, this machine is quite functional. One of its greatest strengths is its maneuverability and portability. It is extremely quiet (stealth-like), and I was able to throw about six inches of snow 15 feet away. I think the higher the outlet angle is set, the further it appears to throw. The electric chute motion works fine and the LED light is quite useful. After about 30 minutes of use I had one third battery capacity remaining. Buy this to supplement your shovelling effort. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for light snowfalls on small properties. For those who don’t want to read my long, detailed review, the bottom line is I would recommend this snow blower for small properties that only receive a few light snowfalls per year. The full review: After receiving our first real snowfall of the year here in NJ, I was anxious to try out the Snowjoe iON cordless snow blower. We received about 8” of moderately wet/heavy snow, which is the max capacity of this snow blower according to the manufacturer. We have a three-car driveway and 25’ of walkways. When I started, I knew I would need to work fast because the manual clearly stated the battery life is only 25-40 minutes. When making the first “pass” I became concerned that the snow blower was not going to live up to my expectations. It was slow going and the snow definitely wasn’t being thrown the 20’ max distance. After completing that first pass, however, things went a little faster/easier because subsequent passes overlapped the already cleared areas so the snow blower wasn’t being overloaded as it was during the first pass. In this amount of somewhat heavy snow, the snow was only being thrown about 10’ during the deeper areas. This resulted in some snow being thrown twice which obviously isn’t very efficient. I didn’t think to time how long the battery lasted, but I’d guess it was closer to the 40 minute estimate, even though it was working hard. This was enough time to clear about 90% of the area I needed cleared, including the much higher/denser snow pile at the end of the driveway that the snow plows created. My employer was closed on account of the snow so rather than finishing the rest with a shovel, I just went inside and plugged in the battery. It took about 2.5-3 hours to fully charge (this matched the estimate in the manual) then I went back out with the snow blower and finished the job. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t get it 100% cleared on one charge, but considering this is a higher-than-average snowfall here on the Jersey Shore, I’m being optimistic that it will get the job done in 3-6” of snow. The electric 180 degree chute is great. I love just hitting a switch to adjust the aim. Due to the wetness of the snow, the chute did clog a handful of times. It was very fast/easy to clear, however, so this is definitely not a deal breaker. I believe the size of my property (again, 3 car driveway and 25’ of walkways) is probably just a hair too large for this snow blower. I don’t want to have to worry about running out of battery power every time I use it. In my opinion the ideal use for this snow blower is properties with only sidewalks since they only require 2-3 passes, and special applications such as a deck or patio since the blades are rubber and the whole unit is very light (easy to carry up steps if necessary.) The square footage of driveways just adds up too quickly. I think this snow blower should come with a second battery so when the first runs out you have a backup and could immediately start charging the first while you’re still working. I would be much more satisfied if that were the case. I actually considered purchasing a second battery but Snowjoe charges about $160 which just seems outrageous…that’s 40% of the total cost of the whole snow blower. For my needs I would prefer a gas snow blower. There are comparable-sized gas snow blowers available in the same price range. However this snow blower definitely has great applications (small properties) and great benefits (quiet, light weight, virtually maintenance free, environmentally friendly). Just evaluate your situation – if you have a small amount of space you need to clear and you don’t receive frequent, heavy snowfalls, I would not hesitate to recommend this snow blower to you. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for small snow storms. I love this snow blower for when we get a couple of inches of snow. It leaves less snow on the sidewalk then my big two-stage snow blower. It even handled the wet snow we had today. I am not sure how it would do in 6" snow, but that is what the big snow blower is for. This one handles so much easier and is quiet, so it will get used for all the snow it can handle. I have a corner lot so I have 120' of city sidewalk to clear. I expected to run out of power with the wet show today, but I still have one light on the battery test after doing the sidewalk and driveway. I will see how the winter goes to see if I need to buy a second battery. This snow blower is light enough that I can carry it up the steps to do the front walk. When I add a deck, it should work well for that as well. About the only drawback is that it does not throw snow as far as I would like. But that is common with most single stage snow blowers. It will throw it across the sidewalk onto the grass on the other side, but the hill along the front is a bit to high for it. January 3, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's Okay This is not an all purpose snow blower. It doesn't work well with slushy snow and the battery life is too short. It only works for about an hour and in the northeast, where we live, we get enough snow that it can take at least 2 hours to clear the driveway (two car), the walkway and the sidewalk. I keep asking my husband if he'd like to return it and get a more useful snow blower but he says this is fine. I think he's just saying that because it's a present but who knows. The hour that it does work it does a good job on "the right type of snow" but it should be able to clear any kind. It should come with two batteries or you should at least be able to purchase another one. February 3, 2015
