Product Overview

Plugging is 1 of the simplest and most economical ways to establish a new lawn, convert a troubled lawn or repair a damaged lawn. Grass plugs have a complete root system and are easier to establish than sod. Moisture is probably the most important consideration immediately after planting. Adjust watering to climatic conditions. Without rainfall, grass plugs should be watered daily for the first 7 to 10 days. Soil and plug moisture must be maintained. Consult with your gardening expert about the desired amount of water. Root-in will occur in approximately 14-20 days during cool months and 7-14 days during warm months. Don’t be afraid to mow a new lawn. After the turf begins to grow, mow at recommended heights.

  • Great for planting plugs of Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede, St. Augustine and other turf grasses
  • Easy ejector handle eliminates bending over
  • Digs holes and transplants from existing grass areas easily extracts a soil core that is the same size as the plug
  • Plugs fit tightly into prepared holes, ensuring better growth and survival
  • Digs holes and transplants new grass plugs same size as most commercially available plugs
  • Guaranteed forever

Customer Reviews

Sod Plugger is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from big disapointment I bought this online based upon the reviews. I used it for about 15 plugs. It folded over where the pipe is welded to the stepping plate, due to a poor quality weld.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality construction, very disappointing I have been a homeowner, a do-it-yourselfer, and a Home Depot customer for over 20 years, and have usually felt that I got a fair value for my $. Well not this time. If I had been able to examine this product in the store instead of ordering on-line direct, I would NOT have purchased it. Who knows where this thing was manufactured, not USA, and not inspected for quality by Home Depot or anyone else. The material is mild steel, fatigues and bends easily, does not hold a sharp edge, and the cutting box was attached by a SINGLE spot weld on one side. Therefore it flexed and broke after about 20 plugs of fescue in damp, not dry, soil. I certainly did not abuse it, and I feel that I was cheated. I plan to return the product to the store with packaging and paperwork in its sorry as-is condition, and we'll see what customer-service's attitude is...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This plugger does the job! I spent a lot of money on St augustine sod for my front yard and the sides of the house. I decided to save money and try to propagate sod in the back yard. My original plan was to just let the grass spread naturally but after some research I found out that that would take several years. I found this plugger and decided to try to help the yard along by taking a few plugs from the sod and moving it to the back yard. I have sense then moved over 500 plugs to the back yard and now the St augustine sod is spreading nicely. This plugger is very easy to use and works great. It's actually fun to use instead of hard work. I don't ever write reviews on products but this tool has been such a good investment i figured I needed to let others know that this tool does the job well and is built to last. You can't go wrong with this plugger and you will actually have fun using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best plugger I have purchased. Better than the HoundDog version that I bought earlier this year. You can read my review for that item, basically it was broken on arrival. This item, the Sod Plugger is great. It is simple, solid, and easy to use. No plastic parts to break! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for quality because the metal pieces that you step on could be wider. It is unreasonable to think that the plugger will work nicely for very wet or very dry soil so I suggest that you water your grass until the plugger goes in easily and pulls out a nice solid plug.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not work for me 1/8th of my lawn was eaten by Chinch bugs and I planned to get St.Augustine sods from home depot and plug them using this. But, unfortunately I cannot get this to work. The stuff seems to be really good, but I am 130 pounds and do not have enough strength to press it hard to put a hole using this. May be this is for people who are strong enough. Did not mean to give low stars, but may help others who are skinny, so they can make a choice before buying this product. Had no other option but to return it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall Positive Works very well, but your soil must be somewhat moist for it to pull the plugs properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Purchase I bought this product to see if i can get my St Augustine grass to go over an area that was just recently dug up so far this product is doing its job...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sod plugger I have only used the sod plugger for several days and approximately 150 pluggs, but it appears to be fairly well designed, sturdy enough, and successful. I had no real problems. Sometimes the sod plug wants to stay connected in the ground, so you have to bend the plugger forward, backward a few times to brake loose the plug. most of the time it comes up as intended. pushing the plug back out o the plugger by way of the pin mechanism, can be somewhat tedious over time.
