Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Randy Far less expensive than isi bottle
I got this on a great sale plus there was a rebate, so the purchase price is somewhat irrelevant. The real savings of the SodaStream system is that each charge of about one liter of water costs approximately ten cents. This is based on a conservative 100 liters against the cost of a refilled/exchanged bottle of SodaStream CO2. They rate their bottle at 160 liters, so in the end it might be less than that. Compare that to the cost of CO2 cartridges for isi and other similar siphons. Even buying in bulk on the Internet, cartridges run about $0.45 each (and even more for the isi brand). No need for a math degree to see that the payback period is quite good, particularly if there are kinds in the house and you are making your own root beer or cola drinks. And the returnable CO2 cartridges are more environmentally sound that throwing away the little, empty CO2 traditional cartridges.
To save CO2, I have been charging bottles by pressing briefly, then waiting about 10 to 15 seconds, then repeating until the "burp' sound indicating full pressure has been reached, and then waiting a few minutes before removing the bottle from the charger. This allows the CO2 to be more sully dissolved into the water.
The soda water created with the SodaStream is very close to seltzer water and far more carbonated than we were ever abler to achieve with the isi charger. The SodaStream also allows you to choose or make your own flavors. We have been using a homemade concentrate of fresh-squeezed lime just, a touch of lemon juice, and sweetening it with stevia and sugar. We add a bit of that over ice and use about half cold water and half soda water. Add an ounce of vodka and it makes a wonderfully refreshing cocktail. We did not use the sample pack of flavorings as they all contain artificial ingredients.
Speaking of cold water, we keep a large dispensing container of cold water in the fridge and use that to fill the SodaStream bottle to be charged. Cold water will hold more CO2 than warm (tap) water.
I have read that the internal valves and such of all SodaStream products is the same. You just pay extra for styling and added features like display of pressure. With a two year warranty, don't worry about the apparent low-cost of the basic models. AND, it's not made in China! A rarity in itself today!

I bought this a few weeks ago because I was finally guilty enough over the many plastic bottles of sparkling water I recycled each week. My sister has had a SodaStream for years - she swears by it and now I do, too. We drink more water now than before. I do suggest getting at least one extra water bottle (2 is better) and an extra 60-liter gas canister so you never run out.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Kat714 Disappointed but hoping that will change
I bought this because I have one and love the product! However the new one did not make the familiar buzz when "charging" the water and then water had only slight carbonation. I called customer service and they were very helpful. Talked me through a troubleshooting process and determined the sodastream was not functioning properly. They then emailed me a return packing slip and I had to repackage the sodastream and return via UPS (which was not very convenient for me due to where I live). I have received notice that the replacement should be delivered Monday. I am hoping to be satisfied and will update after that.

3 months ago got this model and I'm about to call customer support for a second replacement. On the first unit the gas release button broke at the point where it's hinged less than 2 months into service. The second unit I got as a replacement is already leaking CO2 when you press the carbonation button, the first 2 times I press the button the gas leaks into the atmosphere not in the bottle, then it starts to go into the bottle, so basically I waste 30% of the CO2.

This is a replacement for the glass bottle model I have had for a few years and I already appreciate the larger bottle size. Most attractive is that it will take the larger CO2 canister. The "buzz" on this model is so subtle I didn't think it was charging at first; don't expect it to be very loud. It was very different from any other SodaStream I've used. Also, it's taken me a while to master my hand placement to get the right angle and rotation to screw in the bottle for charging. This sounds silly, but I'm not a clutz and it wasn't immediately apparent to me.

I got my sodastream 3 years ago, and I use it almost every day. I used to lug 12-packs of soda home every time it was on sale. Then there was the disposal of the cans. Not since sodastream! Convenient to use. Better-For-Me results. Much less expensive than cans. Tastes great! I control the amount of fizz. I LOVE IT!

This is my second soda stream, and I very much miss the "beeps" that let one know when it has carbonated. The little "pop" that comes now is almost too quiet to hear.

I received this machine free of charge because the Kuerig Kold was discontinued. I really like Soda stream and although I am very appreciative of the gift I do not care for the fact that it is manual operation, gets old fast having to pump it.
