Customer Reviews

Tremendous I - Color Silver Ore 12 ft. Carpet is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from READ THIS BEFORE BUYING SOFT SPRING TREMENDOUS CARPET!!!! It feels good to the hand but not to the foot and is very difficult to vacuum!!!!. We were shown this carpet at Home Depot when we asked to see their best. We decided to buy it based on the appearance, how full and soft it felt to the hand and the assurance that it was the best. We also selected the prime pad as it was also recommended as the best. It is now installed and we still like the appearance. However, the fiber is way too soft and offers little cushion to the foot under normal body weight. Even with the prime pad you feel the hard floor right through it. In addition it oddly feels lumpy in spite of the plywood floor underneath being perfectly smooth. This might be due to the way the soft carpet fiber moves and bunches under foot? The ultra soft, low density fiber is also a problem for our Miele vacuum. The wheels sink fully into the carpet rendering them useless. In addition vacuum really sucks itself down against the carpet extra hard. I assume this is because the greater number of finer fibers do not let the vacuum flow through them as easily. This reduces the flow and increases the vacuum pressure which pulls the head down against the carpet impressively hard. It is very surprising how difficult it is to move the vacuum head. Pushing it forward is nearly impossible but it can reasonably be pulled backward. Miele says that they have another vacuum for $750 that may work better. Not eager about that but not sure what else to do? Who knew such a small change would make so much difference. Or maybe the rest of the carpet designers knew something Soft Spring didn't? Or maybe Soft Spring knows they can sell carpet that feels luxurious to the hand even if it feels bad when walking. Anyway, one lesson to me is that carpet should be evaluated under normal body weight, not just how soft and fluffy it feels when you run your fingers through it. All said we are very disappointed, the 25 year old carpet that we removed was much better. We feel that Soft Spring Tremendous is a design mistake, and expect won’t be around for long. If it is, the properties I mentioned above should be fully explained to the buyer - maybe it’s right for someone or some circumstance. So we took this up with Home Depot. They sent the Quality & Education Manager from the installer to come take a look. When in our home he agreed with us, his words for it were "weird and lumpy, never felt anything like it". However when we next talked to Home Depot they claim that the installers report shows nothing wrong with either the carpet or the pad. What a drag this all has been. Lesson 2 is that if you are shopping for carpet go to a carpet store where the reps really know carpet. We were going to do this but just never got to it and the Soft Spring felt so good in the hand that we went ahead without double checking with professionals. And the third lesson? Well, were not feeling too good about Home Depot and how they stand up to their work and products. Makes me really appreciate the Costco business plan, they back their products like nobody else and are more successful because of it. Well be buying less from Home Depot from here on. Good luck in your carpet buying endeavors!
