Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RobM Perfect for a quieter furnace
I purchased this product to apply in the surrounding area and door of my a/c furnace closet. The material cuts very easy with a box cutter. I used drywall screws and washers to mount it and it cut down the noise DRAMATICALLY! I am not sure of the insulating qualities but sound deadening is great.

I needed something to protect the wall behind my dartboard and this works great. Not for this application but oh well it works.

First, be clear if you want to absorb sound as to reduce echoes, or prevent sound from travelling from one zone to another. I recommend it more for the former use. You can get even better results if you space it off the wall or ceiling by about one inch, in effect leaving a clear space between wall and panel.

I moved into our condo a month ago & we couldn't believe how much noise we could hear from the neighboring unit. We looked around for something to stop the sound & found this at the local Depot. when we called their tech desk, they were very helpful. It took me and a friend better part of a whole day to fix what the builder wouldn't.
if you are hearing noise from your neighbor's TV, buy this stuff, it works.

although some claim that doesn't reduce sound transmission i disagree. No material by it self reduces sound transmission. Its the way you do it and this material when applied the right way is an excellent choice of sound deadening. This is like compressed waist of card board. and reduces dramatically reflections on a room. You can use it as a resilient channel cutting it in strips an applying drywall on it. You can cut it with an utility knife easily. The resistance to the drywall screws is amazing. If you want to apply it in its full length under the drywall i can tell you that it holds the screws like no other. Using it to cover the drywall in a small room like a vocal booth you achieve almost a deaf room. Easy to sand the edges too. I'm very pleased with this product.

This material does very little to improve sound. When installed in an exposed condition (compressed wood as finish surface) it reduces some sound reflections. The only application for sound reduction is using it to screw drywall into it between studs to minimize vibration transfer into the structure. Do not spend your money on this product to reduce sound transmission.
