Rated 5 out of 5Â by Skymaster Great value
Despite what a few other have said I found it to be a great value. Ordered 4 days ago , arrived today .
Came with oil and manuals .
I did need to put a wrench on almost every bolt to make sure they were tight but this is to be expected on something that needs assembly .
Added the oil , filled with fresh gas . Started in first half of first pull .
Ran it for about a half hour . Set at 2 inches .
Very uniform cut , no problems whatsoever .
Is it a $400 mower. Nope .
But it is a GREAT MADE IN USA $300 mower that only costs $159

The shipping box appeared to have been used several times, with 3 and possibly 4 very poorly applied layers of tape, the cardboard was torn in several paces and generally appearing to have been shipped several times. I have never received a shipment packaged so poorly and with so many signs of having been reshipped. There were oil stains on the outside where it was obvious that oil had leaked from inside the carton. Inside was worse. There was oil splattered about on the mower and the carton as well as the enclosed packet of accessories and manuals.
After removing and inspecting the mower itself: The mower was missing one factory-installed bolt and nut entirely, and all four wheels were very visibly out of alignment to substantial degree, both toe and camber. One of the wheels was almost completely frozen on its axle.
The engine had apparently been filled with oil by a previous buyer and the crankcase contained only 8 of the presumably 20 ounces that were probably added by a previous buyer. The oil-filler-cap was only partially threaded in, thus explaining the oil released inside the package.
With the use of a 24-inch prybar I was able to bend the wheel-mount brackets back into reasonable alignment on all 4 wheels. I was also able to disassemble and unfreeze the frozen wheel/axle. The "spokes" on the rear wheels are a cheap snap-on plastic actually just covering a plastic wheel.
The engine started easily and ran very smoothly and seemingly powerful through load. After the initial blue-cloud dissipated, it was nice to see that the blade produces a great deal of uplift and does a very nice job of cutting a uniform swath. The updraft is so powerful in fact, that if your lawn is a bit patchy (like mine) you may need to wait until after a light rain in order to avoid producing a dust storm. But if you have a nice thick lawn you would love the cut itself. I did not try the much-plate cover.
I called the Home depot help line and got through immediately, They very efficiently placed the order for the missing carriage bolt and associated nylok nut. Unfortunately, they said it would be shipped in 2 days and delivery would then be 5 to 7 business days.
Everything about this mower, except possibly the engine, is no better than any, and worst than most, of the cheapest of mowers at any big-box discount store. The quality of assembly and delivery are worse than anything I have ever before experienced from a reputable company. Take you chance if you like, but In my case at least, I could not have done worse.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Disappointed Poor quality and poor customer service
It's hard for me to rate this lawn mower as we had to order the primer bulb when we went to start it after the first time. The primer bulb fell apart in my hand. I called Southland's customer service and the guy I spoke to said he would send out the replacement part. A week went by and I called again. He said he would, and then forgot again. When I followed up a third time, he must have done it finally because he sent me a FedEx tracking #. This is unacceptable. I have had the lawn mower for almost a month and haven't been able to even use to. I would not recommend this lawn mower based on this experience alone.

Home Depot does not support this mower. HD personnel apologized and said they had no pull with the manufacturer.
Came damaged and had to reach Southland direct. Customer service rude. Front wheel bracket has not arrived.
Good price but would advise spending $20 more for local service.

The deck appears to be pretty well made, and the brackets that hold the wheel assemblies are equally impressive.
The handle seems to be sturdy and bolts up nicely to the deck brackets.
After filling engine with oil and adding gas, engine cranked right up on first pull.
The wheel height adjustment mechanisms appear to be of poor quality and have some bent/warped components, which ultimately causes the wheels to be crooked - not straight ahead, or leaning in at the top or bottom (goofy looking). The wheel issue actually causes it to pull to the side when you push it. It doesn't want to go straight ahead.
The front wheels have a plastic 'hub cap' that pops on. They don't fit well and leave a gap between the wheel and hub cap (cosmetic issue only).
The mower has a fuel primer bulb for starting. The primer bulb literally crumbled to pieces on about the third time I pressed it. Just a poor quality primer bulb.
