Answer:
This product is not rated for outdoor (wet location) use. According to the Home Depot website, the following product is for indoor/outdoor use: (56917645) 24 AWG 4 PR CMX OUTDOOR-CMR UL 75C CAT5E TAN. This cable weighs 20.0 lbs/1,000 ft. However it does not appear to be listed for direct burial.

Answer:
No, Plenum rated of any ethernet cable cannot be run outside unless it is inside some sort of sealed weathertight conduit. Failure to do so can have the plenum rated dry rot and fail within a very short amount of time.
With that said, it's a much better option to find an indoor/outdoor version, which is sold online here and at your local store.
I believe ours come in 500 foot lengths, and weigh no more Read More

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Colors aren't great As a cat5 cable, this gets the job done. But as another reviewer mentioned, the latest batch of this stuff has terrible colors. The colors aren't very sharp, especially with the striped wires, which makes for a fun time when it comes time to punch these down or crimp connectors. I had bought a box of this stuff about 3 years ago, so I was able to compare it with one I purchased several weeks ago. The old cable used wires with very deep colors that were easy to make out. The new wires are almost translucent. June 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good cable, needs stronger handles on box Wire smoothly pulled and seldom kinked. bright colors on wires. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superior Cat 5e cable I have used hundreds of feet of the Southwire Blue 24/4 Cat 5e cable around my home. From the attic to the basement. I swear by it. Very tightly wound cable pairs. Terminates easily to keystone jacks or RJ45 terminals. Great for home networking. A bit expensive but worth the price for the piece of mind that I get with excellent quality cable. Handles up to Gigabyte speeds. Great for video streaming of Netflix and others October 31, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Changed manufacturer, terrible product I have been purchasing this product from Home Depot for the last several years. The box markings appear the same as a month ago but it is not the same. This cable is made by a different manufacturer. The cable is not clearly marked with footage like it was, the boxes are poorly constructed and are taped together which keeps opening up, and the cable sheath and conductors are of a much poorer quality....not to mention the cable gets tangled coming out of the box. VERY poor decision to change manufacturer to save money. As a communications contractor I have purchased HUNDREDS of these boxes prior to this change, and I will not purchase another one. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Cable We bought 2 boxes of this cat5e cable and it worked good. We were able to pull it 160', teminate it and test it with a Fluke tester. The Fluke said the cable was ok for Gigabit Ethernet and VoIP. July 31, 2012
